ISIS leader Al-Baghdadi acknowledges defeat in Iraq
...ordered non-Arab fighters to either return to their countries or detonate themselves
Many of ISIS’ leaders in Iraq has now fled towards the group’s controlled areas in neighboring Syria

U.S.-backed Iraqi forces close in on IS-held Mosul
Iraqi forces captured the eastern side of Mosul in January after 100 days of fighting and launched their attack on the districts that lie west of the Tigris river on Feb. 19.

Mosul has all but fallen to Iraqi forces. "Victory".

Was it worth the removal of Saddam, to witness the unending war, violence, and human cost?
Hundreds of thousands have died, horrific acts of torture and genocide have occurred.
Iraq is a shattered wasteland of its former self, whatever remains is propped up by Iranian forces.

They turn a page in their bloody history, but will it not remain a bloody future? I pity those we claim to help.

I don't want to sound sarcastic, but I doubt Daesh is gone by a long shot and Trump is rumbling about Iran still.

I still do not have a link from it in the past, but Dubya seemed to have a hit list in the past that has progressed over time.

Hopefully they can get rid of Daesh in Iraq, that should greatly reduce Daesh's influence.

You do not realize what Iraq has been through in the past couple years. They had to rebuild their military and Iranian commanders have lead the charge by organizing their fellow Shia Muslims. ISIS grew from the Sunni Muslims and had captured all of their territory. The Iraq that exists today is a reborn Iranian vassal, the rest having been genocidally purged by ISIS.

Today the Iraqi military has taken Mosul with a force over 100,000 strong. They are not just battle ready but battle hardened. Having to reclaim territory and wage front line war against ISIS all the way from the outskirts of Baghdad. Do you realize how much territory, how many cities, towns they've had to capture on the path back to Mosul? I have no doubt violence is in their future, but "ISIS back in control" is not part of it. I have no doubt terrorist attacks will continue, but there will not be loss of territory to ISIS again. ISIS has been defeated in Iraq.

Gen. Soleimani: A new brand of Iranian hero for nationalist times
Iranians cite many reasons for his rise, from “saving” Baghdad from IS jihadists and reactivating Shiite militias in Iraq to preserving the rule of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad during nearly six years of war.

Iraqi Shia militias' show of force in battle for Mosul
They claim to have cleared more than 2,000 sq km (772 sq miles). This is now the terrain of the Popular Mobilisation Units (PMUs). It's a coalition of mostly Shia paramilitaries, backed by Iran.

Iran has emerged as the major power in Iraq
It was the first country to fully commit to Iraq after the fall of Mosul, and has played a decisive role since then. It has forged much of Baghdad’s security strategy, has helped organize its militia allies, provided advisers and air strikes, and sold Iraq billions of dollars of much-needed military equipment.

Iraqi forces seize Mosul bridge as thousands of civilians flee

[ISIS is] facing a 100,000-strong force made up of Iraqi armed forces, regional Kurdish peshmerga fighters and Iranian-trained Shi'ite Muslim paramilitary groups.

In summary, Iraq today is not the Iraq who lost half its territory to ISIS.

The latest "ISIS Takes Iraq!" news articles have been written, there just hasn't been a schedule set for their distribution.

No seriously, isis/daesh whatever will continue to create trouble, but as a fighting force in Iraq they are done. Now they're going to start getting squeezed big time by Assad and Russia in Syria as well.

Seeing the ISIS thugs start getting crushed is a good thing for all.

how do you "crush" and or stop something that has no home base? That's the problem. The more you pound them into the sand (literally and figuratively) in Iraq, Syria, etc the more their message grows wings and takes flight and spreads. If you disperse them in one place, they grow bigger and stronger in other countries (NOT in the Middle East for that matter). This is an ideology we're trying to win a war against -- not a sovereign nation.

The Iranians played a good part in this sending troops and equipment. So naturally for them helping Iraq we need to commence bombing immediately.

The ideology of fanatical Islam won't die with ISIS. But ISIS would go away. They created a caliphate. Defeating the Caliphate ends ISIS.

I don't get it. How can Trump take credit for defeating ISIS when his generals just came up with a plan to defeat ISIS in 1 year?

Is Trump taking credit or are his supporters attributing victory to him? Partisan loyalists tend to do that.

I am sure the Sunnis are celebrating about their defeat and the genocide coming their way. Not a damn thing is settled in Iraq by a long shot. No way is Saudi Arabia going to sit around while Iran kills off the Sunni population in Iraq... not with the billions of dollars of modern American military hardware they purchased.

Detach from this tar baby completely. Let them hash it out amongst themselves.

Nobody said anything is settled in Iraq, other than ISIS as a fighting force holding power over large swaths of territory there is done. They sill have plenty of other problems, including the ones you pointed out.

Let them hash it out amongst themselves.

That's generally my feeling as well, stop trying to be the cop around the world.
