Isnt DOOM3 a failure???

I'm with all of you who love D3 .. I also think that some people completely missed the point. The story of Doom 3 was NOT supposed to be new or involved. I was under the impression is was just basically a remake with fantastic graphics. And for those of you arguing that the visuals in Doom 3 aren't that impressive, you're just flat wrong. You might need a new video card. I put in a GeForce 6800 and I think it's fantastic. And to add some more to this .. That darkness is AWESOME. I love sitting in my basement with the lights off playing this game. It's just supposed to be a plain eye candy based shoot 'em up suspense thriller, and as that, it's amazing.

Well, there are fairly basic psychological trends in terms of generating fear amongst humans which they could have used to create a far more effective emotional experience, they failed to do so. The pacing for the title is such that it got to the point where if I saw an enemy ahead of me the first thing I did was turn around(not shoot in front of me) because I knew there was going to be something behind me. The level of predictability is such that inducing fear into anyone with a remotely reasonable level of mental facilities would be impossible going the route that id did. I don't see it as right or wrong, just how it is. Basic psychology and writing will tell you that.

How many horror titles have you played through? How many of them were less effective at inducing fear then D3? I really do see it as simple fact, Eternal Darkness makes D3 look like it was aimed towards infants. I'd be interested in hearing how many horror based titles you have played through, because D3 certainly ranks near the poorest in terms of generating fear that I've ever seen.
You guys don't know scary if you think Doom III is.

This is the MOST banal and predictable game ever. Unless you are brain-dead, after a couple of hours youu KNOW a creature is gonna JUMP in front of you and teleport BEHIND you. Repeated over and over and over withOUT ANY VARIATION gets sickening.

At the beginning i had the lights off and my Klipsch surround WAY up . . . at the end, the volume was DOWN and i was just slogging through it to finish and sell it b4 it becomes bargain bin (i did sell it) . . . in fact, i finished the last Quarter - after the Guardian - in one horrible sitting.

The game gets so stupidly easy after you find a certain artifact it is feels 'retarded' - like id rushed the ending to beat HL2.

And there is ZERO AI - it appears to be ALL SCRIPTED.

There is ZERO replay value

Is this what people call a "good game"? - "easy, predictable, stupid excursions with the PDA, no AI or replay value"
This game is crap . .. with nice - if gory - visuals

I finished each game on medium difficulty settings.

I have similar feelings that the d3 gameplay was repetitive(more on this..), also i felt farcry is also monotonous.

Farcry seems like a Soldier of Fortune 2.5 not quite really that much better than the q3 based game. The distance is nice and multiplayer is good for those tired of COD etc. I personally was more excited about sof2,so I am sure the theory is correct that q4 and up and coming releases will give us more exciting multiplayer. I am hoping for another title to entice a large community like sof2/q3 did for 3 years plus.

Doom 3 if i concentrate seems to be geared for the console... with the low interaction levels, repetitive skins, etc..
maybe its just me but will there be d3 for xbox,ps2 in time for stocking stuffing ? weel maybe not according to this.
But I feel the overall game was designed not for pc but for console from the get. As this is where more money will be made in sells vs. piracy perhaps. Anyway heres a link on the matter.
Doom3 X-box delayed?

Nothing against microdonkeysoft.heeeee haawww , but exclusive for pc titles are becoming a dying breed !

Not really... Doom 3 was geared to show off the engine which is why they didn't bother creating a 3rd chapter... they just reprinted the 1st chapter on better paper

That's the point moron. It's designed to scare you and it plays on the ingrained fear of the dark that is within us all. If you turned up your gamma you ruined much of the game - why do you think there is a flashlight? Unbelievable, this is like saying "(American) football is stupid, they don't even play with their feet!"

Doom 3 is an ... interesting game to say the least. But maybe an overused cliche can help out here. Ever heard "too much of a good thing is a bad thing"?
In this case, its not really a "bad" thing, but to me, at least, the darkness of every level kinda leaves no room to intensify the feeling as you progress. Its dark from the beginning, which is neat in its own way, but to have a few nice and bright rooms to counter the many MANY pitch black rooms would be a really nice change.

Its not so much that I don't LIKE the *wow* factor of the darkness, or the atmosphere it provides, but too much of it leaves a kind of.. empty feeling.

I specifically remember entering a larger, well-lit room. It looked beatuful, and was a real display of what the engine is capable of. Shadows still lurked in the corners, areas under desks were still eerily dim, and hallway corners with a flickering light around the corner REALLY made it heart pounding. BUT, I remember saying to myself, now this is a nice change, but I bet the lights will turn out as soon as i walk down the hallway.

WEEEEEL, they did.

I guess a little variety is what I was wanting..
