The Shah should never have been placed in charge though, once again foreign meddling by UK/USA

A lot of the shit in the middle east is directly because of cold war meddling by both the US/USSR and Israel's stealing of Palestinian land and the resulting backlash

/not to mention controlling the worlds most valuable commodity (oil)
The West has caused great oppression in the East.

The Shah helped start the blowback that led to the Ayatolla taking over and turning Iran into an extremist country. He was a fucking tyrant and was installed as a western friendly dictator to keep western oil interests from ever really profiting the Iranian people, and on top of that, came into power via coup, overhthrowing a democratically elected progressive leader in Mossadegh. The radical Islamists only came into power in Iran as a blowback against the horrific tyrant the Shah, our lil western friendly authoritarian shithead evil puppet.

I'm glad you can use Chat GPT AND Bing Chat to spread ignorance to the world. Congrats. Fuckin' AI>
But it still does not change the fact that the US, UK, and USSR meddling in the middle east since the end of WWII caused the problem the world is in. To be honest, Germany was probably the most recent country the US was successful in nation building. Forget about the Shah, the US thought it was better to start war in Iraq, rather than Iran.

Of course the Shah and Saddam where horrible tyrants, but they never supported terrorist organizations like the leaders of those countries currently do. On the other hand, Iran has backed extremist groups sine Ayatolla got into power.

Why else do you think the US did not go after Assad the same way they did with Sadam?

no wonder they are in a hurry to finish the genocide

  • Mandatory service for men will go back up to 3 years after having been 32 months for 9 years, this also applies to soldiers currently serving
  • Currently serving soldiers will get extra pay during those 4 additional months as compensation, ranging from 5K to 8K shekels per month.
  • The maximum age for reserve service will increase from 40 to 46, 50 for officers, and the age for volunteering will go up to 66.
  • The amount of time that reservists will be expected to serve per year (not including emergencies) will quadruple
  • Armored and infantry battalions are expected to grow by at least 20%

meanwhile the rest of Israel (with a helping hand from the US) can help pay for ultra-orthodox males to read religious texts

And here is Lapid expressing that anger~

link if you can read Hebrew

Meanwhile new-age himmler wants to go ignite the rest of the Palestinians by going into Al-Aqsa Mosque

I listen to KQED on my drive to work here in the Bay Area and they seem to have a pretty even handed take on things, but maybe that's just public radio in the most liberal place in the US.

Iraq is a country in West Asia that largely corresponds with the territory of ancient Mesopotamia. The history of Mesopotamia extends from the Lower Paleolithic period until the establishment of the Caliphate in the late 7th century AD, after which the region came to be known as Iraq. Encompassed within Iraqi territory is the ancient land of Sumer, which came into being between 6000 and 5000 BC during the Neolithic Ubaid period of Mesopotamian history, and is widely considered the oldest civilization in recorded history. It is also the historic center of the Akkadian, Neo-Sumerian, Babylonian, Neo-Assyrian, and Neo-Babylonian empires, a succession of local ruling dynasties that reigned over Mesopotamia and various other regions of the Ancient Near East during the Bronze and Iron Ages.[1]

Iraq during antiquity witnessed some of the world's earliest writing, literature, sciences, mathematics, laws and philosophies; hence its common epithet, the Cradle of Civilization.

This era of self-rule lasted until 539 BC, when the Neo-Babylonian Empire was conquered by the neighbouring Achaemenid Empire under Cyrus the Great, who proclaimed himself "King of Babylon". The ancient city of the same name, which had been the titular center of both Babylonian civilizations, became the most important of the four Achaemenid capitals.

Over the next 700 years, the regions forming modern Iraq came under Greek, Parthian, and Roman rule, with the Greeks and Parthians establishing new imperial capitals in the area with the cities of Seleucia and Ctesiphon, respectively. By the 3rd century AD, when the area once again fell under Persian (Sasanian) control, nomadic Arab tribesmen originating from South Arabia (consisting mostly of modern-day Yemen) began to migrate and settle within Lower Mesopotamia, culminating in the creation of the Sassanid-aligned Lakhmid Kingdom in around 300 AD; the Arabic name al-ʿIrāq dates to roughly this time.[2] The Sassanid Empire was eventually conquered by the Rashidun Caliphate in the 7th century, with Iraq specifically falling under Islamic rule following the Battle of al-Qadisiyyah in 636.[3] The city of Kufa was founded shortly thereafter, in close proximity to the previous Lakhmid capital of Al-Hirah, and it became the home of the Rashidun dynasty from 656 until their overthrow by the Umayyads in 661. With the rise of the Abbasids in 750, Iraq once again became the center of Caliphate rule—first in Kufa from 750–752, then in Anbar for the following decade, and finally in the city of Baghdad after its founding in 762. Baghdad would remain the capital of the Abbasid Caliphate for the majority of its existence, during which time it became the cultural and intellectual center of the world in what is known today as the Islamic Golden Age. Baghdad's rapid growth and prosperity in the 9th century would be followed by a period of stagnation in the 10th century due to the Buwayhid and Seljuq invasions, but it remained of central importance until the Mongol invasion of 1258. After this, Iraq became a province of the Turco-Mongol Ilkhanate and declined in importance. After the disintegration of the Ilkhanate, Iraq was ruled by the Jalairids and Kara Koyunlu until its eventual absorption into the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century, intermittently falling under Iranian Safavid and Mamluk control.

Ottoman rule ended with World War I, after which the British Empire administered Mandatory Iraq alongside a nominally self-governing Hashemite monarchy headed by King Faisal I. The Kingdom of Iraq was eventually granted full independence in 1932 under the terms of the Anglo-Iraqi Treaty, signed by High Commissioner Francis Humphrys and Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Said two years prior. A republic formed in 1958 following a coup d'état. Saddam Hussein governed from 1968 to 2003, into which period fall the Iran–Iraq War and the Gulf War. Saddam Hussein was deposed following the 2003 U.S. invasion of Iraq.

All these other rulers were really nice people. No persecution ever. Some even wore hats. Clearly though, the US/UK are the worst ever in all history .

Anyway, based on the way negotiations are going, it's pretty clear that Israel plans to continue till it has completely dismembered what little cultural cohesion Palestinians in Gaza had. Very odd to find myself in agreement with the House of Saud.

if you don't see the difference between couping a legitimately elected government in modern times over long ago invasions then there's not much more to discuss, lmfao

It's always a contest to see who is the most stupid person around here, and this guy just put himself in the running.

To be honest, would things have been different if the 2000 Camp David Summit had been agreed to?

The liberals love Israel, see Biden, Pelosi, Schumer, etc. Drives me nuts hearing leftist confused with liberal because that's as far the corporate media allows the overton window to slide. Definitely agree SF might be the most liberal place in the US though considering that the textbook liberal senator Feinstein made her bones there.

They are different, but have the same effect (fewer civilians are typically killed in coups and far fewer soldiers). My real point is that crap just happens over and over again with humans. 'Leaders' just can't leave things be for long periods of time in history. They pace is faster in modern times - but we have rapid communications, transport, LOTS more people, etc.

This girl's tragic story has gone viral in social media.

When will the IDF take accountability?
They have finally found out what happened to her:

Hi Squished, go play in traffic. KThxBye

Awwww, poor lil snowflake got their feels hurt, after I just reiterated what @KMFJD said to you. Your point was dumb as hell. Like stupidly stupid dumb. To justify horrific policy in the middle east which is part of the reason it's a mess right now. So not just dumb, but to protect shitty things.

When the weather gets nicer though, I will play in traffic plenty. Love to ride my bike in the city. Do you want a car to hit me and send you photos so you feel better?

Not justifying what we did to Iran. Not justifying what is happening in Israel. Why don’t you take your anger and lack of understanding of my posting record in recent years and go far, far away. You add nothing to any conversation these days except for endless invective.

You used ridiculous historical context to say, oh that's not so bad. And it was absolutely stupid logic, as was the first responded to you by a well-respected poster that it was laughable.

Just ignore me instead of being such a baby and just bitching and bitching and moaning like a child. Christ.

I have yet to get an answer to this question. If Hamas is so bad why was Netanyahu funding them?

Not suggesting Hamas is altruistic.

Maybe he wanted to take over palastine, but wanted Hamas to look like the culprit? He pays them -> they buy weapons-> War starts -> Hamas is dead -> Isreal has Palestine and blames Hamas for the start.

Is it possible that could be arranged?

Please no blood, broken bones, or injury. I don't do well with that.

I have however had a bicyclist hit me, when my vehicle was completely stopped, fly over my hood, slam on the ground on the other side, get up quickly run around the front of the car, grab their somehow still functional bicycle, and then frantically ride off before anyone could react. Downright menace to society.

So some photos would make me feel better. Much better.
