i'm going to have a fucking aneurysm the next time i hear a state department ghoul mention how israel has the right to defend itself

Sadly I think any official response from the USG right now is couched in the political and electoral consequences of being hard on Israel.

Once the election is over (and hopefully Harris wins), then the USG can begin acting like it has some real teeth.

Here's Joe showing you how it's done

great job Joe

Six @UNRWA colleagues killed today when two airstrikes hit a school and its surroundings in Nuseirat in the middle areas. This is the highest death toll among our staff in a single incident. Among those killed was the manager of the UNRWA shelter and other team members providing assistance to displaced people. Sincere condolences to their families and loved ones. This school has been hit five times since the war began. It is home to around 12,000 displaced people, mainly women and children. No one is safe in GazaNo one is spared. Schools and other civilian infrastructure must be protected at all times, they are not a target. We call on all parties to the conflict to never use schools or the areas around them for military or fighting purposes.
another day, another massacre

Interview with former US diplomat Chas Freeman on US-Israeli relations. snippet:

Thomas Karat: (when Netanyahu addressed congress) There were 61 standing ovations for Netanyahu in the Congress so how is this explainable?

Chas Freeman: From my point of view as an American, this was a defilement of our legislature and it was a national humiliation. I don't think that emulating the people's Congress in Pongyang in its slavish devotion to Kim Jong Un is worthy of any legislative body. I would hope that had Adolf Eichman appeared before the Congress he would not have been received in this light. But this is a man, Netanyahu, whose speech by the way was a barrage of lies and deceptive comments, nothing true whatsoever but very skillfully delivered. He's a very good politician. This is a product of the slavish reality of our Congress which depends on campaign donations and is careerist. Very few there are willing to stand up for principle. So this is a discrediting of American democracy globally. The world saw that and does not admire what happened nor do I...

I doubt he was acting on his own and that this was not an (Israeli) govt backed effort to get something in return from Russia (besides cash). If he had been an Iranian, the whole country would have been accused.

Israeli pleads guilty to shipping aircraft parts to Russia, violating sanctions

Between March 2022 and May 2023, Haimovich allegedly facilitated the export of aircraft parts and avionics, some with missile technology applications, from the US to Russian customers through third-party transshippers...

Uhm you realize you're quoting Hamas, right?

Regardless of your position on this war I'm certain you know they are not a credible source.
uhm, yeah, who else would have any estimates that would be even close to the truth? been credible enough for the un in the past

Why would you think this estimate would be even close to the truth?

If you want to say 'this is how many people Hamas is claiming' that's one thing but to 1) not mention it's from Hamas and 2) treat it as if it's accurate is silliness.

Who cares? Just because other people are also falling for a garbage source doesn't mean you have to.

Everyone on here knows this too.

So the Israelis seem to have compromised the pager supply chain to Hezbollah, put high explosives in them, and just detonated them all.

The videos coming out of Lebanon are quite graphic and the often major injuries clearly not a result of the battery going.

While I’m appalled at what the IDF/Mossad are doing in Gaza and the West Bank, I still have to marvel at their tradecraft, and won’t shed any tears for Hezbollah operatives killed or maimed in this attack. Wow, that is some serious intel work.

If you think it is an underestimate of the total casualties then I entirely agree with you. The fact of the matter is that Gaza consists of several densely-populated cities that have been carpet-bombed for nearly a year and civilians have been told to evacuate and then bombed in the evac sites.

Pick a city, then carpet-bomb it for a year, and while you're at it, try and kill any fleeing civilians. 40k casualties seems like a low-ball figure to me. Why does it seem like an exaggeration to you?

I have no idea what the number of casualties is. What I do know is that Hamas is an incredibly untrustworthy source and I'm sure you know this as well.

This is why I constantly harp on people to consider sources - an untrustworthy source doesn't become trustworthy because you agree with them and even the least trustworthy sources occasionally say true things. In fact, saying some things that are true is a vital part of the propaganda technique. To use someone else's point of 'who else would know?' ask yourself if you would consider Russia's estimates of civilian casualties in Donbas to be accurate. If not, why is that different?

I think Israel's war in Gaza has gone far beyond what could be justified by Hamas' barbaric attack but I still don't believe liars without external verification because, well, they are liars.

Again, we all know this.

  • Israel has the right to defend itself.
  • But Israel goes too far with a total disregard for human life.
Both can be true.

Then ignore Hama's assertion and think about the scenario I posed to you.
Yes, I'm glad we agree that we should ignore Hamas' assertion. As to estimating civilian casualties by eyeballing things lol - no.

I'm perfectly willing to believe civilian casualties in Gaza are high. I have no idea what that number is though and I sure as shit aren't going to get it from a bunch of degenerate murderers and liars with an obvious incentive to deceive me. Condemning Israel's actions does not require uncritically accepting statements by fucking Hamas, people.
