Missing from much of the MSM. Mexicos first female and Jewish president lets her and her countrys position be known on the Israel-Palestine issue.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has called for the recognition of the state of Palestine alongside Israel, reaffirming her country’s longstanding position on the matter...

Sheinbaum, who condemned the ongoing violence in the region, added that “war will never lead to a good destination.”

Sheinbaum has previously expressed criticism of Israeli military actions. In 2009, she publicly condemned an Israeli operation in Gaza through an open letter...

2700+ Israelis sign open letter to the world...

We, Israeli citizens residing in Israel and abroad, call on the international community – the UN and its institutions, the United States, the European Union, the League of Arab States, and all states around the world – to intervene immediately and implement every possible sanction towards achieving an immediate ceasefire between Israel and its neighbors, for the future of both peoples in Israel and Palestine and the peoples of the region and for their rights to security and life.

Many of us are veteran activists against the occupation, for peace and mutual existence in this land. We are motivated by our love for the land and its residents, and we are concerned for their future. We have been horrified by the war crimes committed by Hamas and other organizations on 7 October and we are horrified by the countless war crimes that Israel is committing. Unfortunately, the majority of Israelis support the continuation of the war and massacres, and a change from within is not currently feasible. The state of Israel is on a suicidal path and sows destruction and devastation that increase day by day...

So far appears limited to military/IRGC targets. Iranian gov previously indicated if Israeli strikes were limited to these that they would not feel compelled to retaliate. US also had advance notice (presumably because they are using our tankers) and likely approved target list.

Any word of which country IDF overflew for the attacks? I would be surprised in Iraq or Saudi Arabia wanted to allow it.

I will give you a hint. The Secretary of State was recently in Saudi Arabia, I figured this is why he was there.

The Israelis are very good at this sort of thing though. Don't know that they'd necessarily _need_ permission.

Remember

The Israeli planes left Etzion Airbase, flying unchallenged in Jordanian and Saudi airspace. To avoid detection, the Israeli pilots conversed in Saudi-accented Arabic while in Jordanian airspace and told Jordanian air controllers that they were a Saudi patrol that had gone off course. While flying over Saudi Arabia, they pretended to be Jordanians, using Jordanian radio signals and formations.

Also, on that historical event, this bit is a weird historical footnote
King Hussein of Jordan, vacationing in the Gulf of Aqaba, witnessed the planes overfly his yacht, and noticed their Israeli markings. Taking into account the location, heading, and armament of the jets, Hussein quickly deduced the Iraqi reactor to be the most probable target. Hussein immediately contacted his government and ordered a warning to be sent to the Iraqis. However, due to a communication failure the message was never received and the Israeli planes entered Iraqi airspace undetected.

As is this
Ramon, who was the youngest pilot to participate in the operation, later became the first Israeli astronaut and died in the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster.

We have been working with both countries to sign an agreement like Jordan and Israel's. I'm unsure if Jordan has been involved in the talks.

True, that I suppose the Saudis have zero love for Iran (to put it mildly). Just seems to be the case that Israel are quite capable of crossing those countries' airspace whether they have permission or not.

Almost every year we are made aware by news headlines of the Nobel peace prize winner. About 2 weeks ago, Nihon Hidankyo, a Japanese group of atomic bomb survivors won the prize. Just learned of it now. It seems to have been downplayed in the MSM this time around. Maybe its just me, but anyone heard of the 2024 Nobel peace prize winner yet?

My guess as to why it why I think it was played down is because the groups co-chair, Toshiyuki Mimaki, had said this after learning they had won:

“I thought for sure [the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize] would be the people working so hard in Gaza (UNRWA), as we’ve seen," he told reporters in Tokyo after the announcement.

“In Gaza, bleeding children are being held by their parents. It’s like in Japan 80 years ago.”

In response, Israel's ambassador to Japan attacked the comparison as "outrageous and baseless", and said such comparisons "distort history and dishonour the victims"...

Appears Tehran is under attack.
Iran really should be quite scared at (a) how precise the attack was and (b) how useless their defense against such attacks were. I mean basically Israel demonstrated they could pretty much obliterate anything in the country at will.
-
Having said this and going back to the larger picture - I think Israel is no doubt guilty of massive war crimes in Gaza and their treatment of the Gaza people (regardless of their religion/ethnic) has been disgusting the past decade. I do not believe this treatment cause the Hamas terrorist attacks which is a different matter. I would like to see certain people in the Israel govt and army brought up and tried (and hopefully sentenced) for war crimes.

Having said this I believe Israel has the right to defend it self and it has shown reasonable constraint (probably with great pressure by the Biden adminstration) in their attacks against Iran. I do expect a public shift in position by the Biden adminstration (regardless of the election out come) once the elections take place on Nov 5th and I think such a shift would be correct.

Having said all of this i do not have an answer or even a suggestion for fixes for these conflicts. I believe that if Israel did not exist Saudi and Iran would be at war. If there was a two state solution for Palestinian (even if the Palestinian received most of what they asked for) a year later a new conflict would arise for some to be determined reason. Basically Israel ingenuity turned a land of have not into a land of have that surrounding areas could but have failed to copy and this conflict will never be resolved. In addition there will always be those who use religious difference as a basis to claim others do not have the right to exist and that has been going on in the middle east region for over 3000 years (basically before religion as we now know them). Part of the issue is a general backwardness of the people and a desire of leaderships to use this as a way to retain power and part of it might very well be something in the water that make people unable to get along.

Anyway that is my views on the matter and my prediction for the immediate future.

War on Gaza: Israeli strike kills nearly 100 Palestinians sleeping in homes

Reports say the wounded are dying due to lack of hospitals, a result of Israel's systematic destruction of health services

Israeli forces have killed nearly 100 Palestinians, including 25 children, in an air raid on homes in north Gaza where displaced people were sheltering.

The bombing late on Monday targeted a five-storey building in Beit Lahia, a northern town that has been under a severe Israeli siege and ground offensive for 24 days.

At least 93 fatalities have been confirmed, including 25 children, according to the Gaza-based government media office. Forty more are missing.

The Palestinian health ministry reported 150 wounded.

Footage aired on Al Jazeera showed recovered bodies covered in blankets at the attack site. A woman was seen mourning next to victims, including several of her children and grandchildren...
