It's really, really tough. I feel for Israel:
In its scope, depravity, and national reach, the Hamas assault was a much greater shock to Israelis, and their response should be viewed through that lens.

* The America population equivalent of the more than 1,200 killed would be nearly
40,000, which is
13x 9/11
* "The attack is considered the bloodiest day in Israel's history and the deadliest for Jews since the Holocaust."
* Horrible war crimes against civilians were also committed
Israel has it tough because the terrorist organization they're fighting has no problem using civilians as shields, which makes fighting back without affecting civilians
incredibly tricky. Side note, the October 7th project is an
incredible effort to gather related social media posts from the survivors & non-survivors:
A group of Israeli volunteers quickly set out to capture social media messages posted by survivors of the October 7th Hamas attack on Israel.

In America, nearly 3,000 Americans were killed on 9/11...we then spent 20 years & $21 TRILLION dollars in response:
Since Sept. 11, 2001, the U.S. has spent a mindboggling $21 trillion on foreign and domestic militarization. Meanwhile, the entire Republican Party and a handful of centrist Democrats are trying to block or whittle down a $3.

According to the Costs of War Project, the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT campaign) resulted in more than 4.5 million deaths (direct and indirect).
Our track record on holding back is...not great.
War is a mess.
