I got this cookbook for my mother during Covid as a birthday present. She cooked a few recipes but now at 81 she has no interest in learning new recipes, she cooks what she knows. So she gave me back the cookbook. It's called Falastin - and it's a Palestinian cookbook. Ottolenghi was involved in this project - he is a very well known Israeli chef and has a lot of great cookbooks published, many leaning to the vegetarian tip. It's a beautiful book.
So I was looking through it this weekend to bookmark some recipes, and the book has photos and info/stories on different people throughout the occupied territories who are weaved into the story of food. As I was looking through it, I thought to myself, what a fucking travesty that most of the occupied territories are destroyed right now, and many of the places and people I see in these photos are destroyed and dead. That the Palestinian culture has been wiped off the map in a purposeful way by the genocidal maniacs which are the Israelis. Literally they have wiped this culture off the map, and the West Bank is next.
The Israeli government is pure evil, and to any Israeli who does support the Bibi government and this obscene war, I wish nothing but the worst experiences upon them. Not death, but shitty times.
