Lot of chatter on Twitter speculating that we are witnessing a Russian-sanctioned proxy war in Israel in retaliation for Israeli support for Ukraine. I’m not convinced—Hamas has plenty of reasons to try to stop the Saudi-Israeli peace deal and gets plenty of funding from Iran.

However…drones dropping bombs on tanks with precision? Block by block advance/hold/siege tactics? Some are saying this is new for Hamas. Where were they trained?

There is no comparison between the Falklands conflict and what's happening in Israel!
In the same way there is no comparison between the Falklands conflict and the Northern Ireland troubles.
It's why we didn't try to fix the troubles by sending an aircraft carrier to Derry.

You're putting more work into this distilled example than necessary.

Let's try this: what I'm saying, which has nothing to do with tactics, culture, or politics mind you, is that Israel has the same right/duty to protect it's citizens from Hamas as the UK did to protect the British citizens of the Falklands from an Argentine invasion.

I don't think I can boil it down farther than that. Please tell me you understand.

Netanyahu said Israel will “reach every place Hamas is hiding”, telling residents of Gaza to “leave those places now”.

Yup. Things about to start glowing for a while.

Where are the would-be Gazan targets supposed to go?

I'd say the strawman was bringing up the Falklands conflict when the discussion is the Palestinian Territories. The two situations are totally different.

Just curious, was there any irony experienced at all with this post? Ye who brought the IRA and the UK into the thread? Too funny

Well the IRA were a terrorist group who lived amongst the civilian population.
Seems more comparable than an invading army coming on warships.

Tell you what I'll address all those points if you address the ones you side stepped earlier. Seems fair no?

Israel will stop feeding power into the Gaza Strip according to the Israeli Energy Minister.

This may backfire for Israel. You don't put 2.5mil people into the stone age. You just don't.

Do those on reservations have their movements curtailed?
Depends on the year and the situation with the residents.

I'm not sure what Canada's history with reservations is but given their rather distasteful stance toward natives, it shouldn't surprise me if they restricted movements.

In what way is an invading army equivalent to what's happening in Israel?
The only Argentinians in the Falklands were professional soldiers fighting a conventional war.
They didn't live there, they weren't mixed up in the civilian population. And the solution to that problem was solved quickly and cleanly with very little civilian loss.
In no way has it anything to do with the problems in Israel or Northern Ireland!

Why would the Gazans take on Israel? It is the most powerful country in the Middle East.

On another forum I was on, there was a lot of pent up passion for attacking racist Whites in this country following every bias assault.

It was suggesting by many, but not all, that every Black person own a gun. Until I pointed out that it's a lot more people than just Whites who are racist and not all Blacks would be legally permitted to own a firearm.

I get the perennial frustration and fits of rage. But the bottom line is that militant Blacks intent on vengeance in hit and run attacks would likely be slaughtered.

I imagine such feelings of despair, hopelessness and a burning desire for revenge is what prompted this latest round of fighting between Gazans and Israel.

I kinda meant in the present day. But we'd all agree that treating people like that is a "bad thing" yes?

Serious question. Does the state of Israel have a duty of care to those in the Palestinian Territories?
What is the state of nationhood of those in the Palestinian Territories?
If they aren't Israeli what are they? Does that mean that the Palestinian Territories are a country?
Who is ultimately responsible for what happens in the Territories?
@kage69 not wanting to address any of those points still?
