what did you guys think of Iran's icbm response, makes that tiny THAAD deployment seem rather useless doesn't it? but yet bibi seems determined to strike.... Iran for the most part seems to be able to direct their strikes towards non civilian targets for the most part while it's hard to argue that for the iof's

Sounds like Israel's shield is running a bit thin.
Not sure they can ignore Iran's attack. And yet, they should probably fear further missile barrages.

Israel may have to let missiles through air defenses amid shortage of interceptors...
ISRAEL faces a shortage of rocket and missile interceptors vital for its Iron Dome air defence system - meaning terrorist weapons could pierce through.
After a year of war in Gaza and now heavy fighting in Lebanon, Israel's store of crucial $2million Arrow 3 missiles has taken a heavy hit.

yeah....i believe this is from '82 , really strange how it's relevant again? gfy

Yep, it is from 1982. Thats what I was saying throughout this thread, that Israel did not just suddenly become a monster after Oct 7, it was always that way. If you also notice, much of the media is rarely referencing the 1982 Israeli invasion of Lebanon, even though it was what gave birth to Hezbollah.

Cartoons like that were more prevalent back then even though Israel still had pretty strong control of the MSM. Many in the media were not as coerced as severely back then as they are now with antisemitism labels.

Same problem that Ukraine and Russia face really. Once you run down your stockpile decisions have to be made about what to prioritize. Even the Russians don't have anywhere close to enough missiles to prevent Ukrainian drone strikes on key military assets.

Excellent article in the New Yorker

"The novelist Howard Jacobson has argued that too much press coverage of dead Palestinian children is a new form of “blood libel” against Jews."

JFC, talk about needing to be the perpetual victim! How dare people hold the State of Israel accountable for the children they've killed!

I'd argue that "too much press coverage" constitutes continuing to run the stories for years after Israel was forced to stop genociding by the rest of the world. (what wild fantasies I sometimes harbour, I grew up with TNG what can I say...)

Yeah, Sinwar might be dead. Reportedly some IDF patrol basically stumbled upon him and some of his guys not knowing who they were.

Again, more from FT:

Israel said on Thursday it had killed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, the architect of the deadly October 7 attack last year.
Sinwar’s death is likely to be a pivotal moment in Israel’s year-long war in Gaza, delivering a devastating blow to Hamas and a symbolic victory to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Who's ready for today's super-surprising headline?

"Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Sinwar's death does not mean the end of the war in Gaza"

Israel and its Iran-aligned foes vow more war after Hamas leader's death

Indeed, all parties to this war are vowing more.
If Hamas and Hezbollah want to fight, surely they should be obliged?
Yes, it means horror and pain for their people. But until their military forces want something else, people are going to be torn to shreds.

Our choice as a third party is to simply choose whether it is one side or the other that gets shredded. If we have a third option, I do not know it.

Doesnt change a thing. Israel will continue to wage war and kill 1000s of civs regardless, even if its adversaries stop fighting. Israel is the most war-mongering country that has ever emerged since Nazi Germany last century.

Israel always sees opportunities arising out of conflict, esp if it may involve creating irrevocable changes or actions that can bring it closer to a permanent hold on the occupied territories. When hostilities escalate between it and Iran, they may likely also ratchet up their oppressive activities in the West Bank. N'Yahoo is under pressure from his RW coalition partners to annex the WB and expel the remaining Pals there.

In 1989 he stated that Israel should have expelled the Pals from the territories while the worlds attention was on Chinas Tiananmen Square massacre. Thats how he schemes and plots. Conflict = opportunities for Israel that go beyond its stated aims.

I've just wasted a whole lot of time arguing with an Israel apologist on imgur. I think what I need to do is devise a "you must be this tall to go on this ride" question, something like:

Do you agree that the natives in the area that came to be known as 'Mandatory Palestine' had the right to live in their homes and that the UN decided to give their land away to people who didn't live there?

Because after a long back-and-forth, the apologist dropped this line casually into the conversation:

"They didn't "take" anything that wasn't already theirs." - which I queried and it turned into the classic "Palestine didn't exist" line and "they didn't need permission".

Col. Douglas MacGregor whatever you may think of his politics has been involved in combat even if it was decades ago.

Toward the end of this video he cites examples of U.S. Presidents telling Israel "ok, you've proven your point. There has to be a limit to the fighting." (probably because a regional war in the area would make the Oil embargo of the 70's feel like heaven in comparison economically speaking). Thus preventing escalation that Biden seems to be unwilling or maybe just too senile to prevent.

Yes those times were different for one thing there was no large group of Arabic voters in swing states proclaiming that they will refuse to vote for a candidate because the current President is refusing take the position that previous presidents have taken which limited the past conflicts before.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the country Israel wants to attack has had decades to stockpile missiles, in amounts that just by sheer numbers, could overwhelm the anti-missile defenses Israel would turn to. Defense systems like Iron Dome and the THAAD anti-missile systems recently given orders to deploy to Israel by Biden. This of course will put some of our soldiers in the line of fire and Biden shows no sign of taking the firm steps necessary to end the violence whatever he may say about Netanyahu in private.

When missile defense fails, and missiles truly do extensive damage. That is the trigger for launching nukes against Iran and other regional enemies.
Biden is trying to hold the line against Iran starting a nuclear war.
A fool's errand, but the only real move we have.

The bloodlust of Israel and Iran will determine this war. Nothing else will.

Yes, that's what it boils down to inevitably, certain Israelis believe God ordained them to have that land so that makes it right. I don't doubt some Muslims believe the same, but its not something I see crop up as the inevitable end game "I win" type of argument that happens with Israelis. Which isn't to say there isn't some specious arguments (I've seen some Muslim arguments about how it was this family's land like 2000 years ago, so everything subsequent is illegal and it should go back to that family, but there's usually like 50 other claims to the same land as part of that).

But simple fact is, Israel agreed to certain land allotments and has stopped actually abiding by it. They used to do some lip service by tearing down Israeli settlements on land that was absolutely internationally recognized as Palestinian, but think that stopped since Bibi dropped all pretense to win in 2015. Wouldn't ya know, that happened before October 7 2023, but some would have you believe that Israel only started doing this type of shit after that purely as a result of the Hamas actions.

I don't know what will happen once the American Christians decide God actually ordained them to have that land. Some are getting there these days. They are prepping for the Armageddon showdown that's supposed to happen there (in their minds at least). If only (just like, if only they'd move to Russia since they believe it'd be so much better).

um yeah. Too bad Trump cancelled the limited enrichment deal with Iran in a fit of pique over Obama's roasting of him in a past White House Correspondence Dinner.

If Biden was really trying to hold the line against a nuclear war then Blinken couldn't be pulling this BS without President Biden chewing him out as he would deserve if he unless the accusations were absolutely false.

If anyone is about the start a nuclear war the reason couldn't be the possibly 186,000 or more dead as a result of the Gaza flattening campaign Israel has been on since late last year.
Yes that could be the real number according to a paper noted in the Lancet. the current numbers of about 40,000 just might be an underestimate.

The Lancet: Gaza’s True Death Toll Could Be 186,000 or Higher

Michael Moore was one of the first who warned that Hillary could lose in 2016.

here he urges Biden to be bold with executive orders that would help his VP shore up votes before the election.

Bucket List Joe President Biden Has 100 Days Left in Office. He Has Newly-Granted Supreme Powers WITH Immunity and No Political Consequences. What If He Were to Use Them?

6. Be Israel’s Best Friend, Stop the Slaughter.

How many violations of red lines will it take until you’ve had enough? How many times can Netanyahu flaunt your rules, ignore your advice, and spit in your face? He came to Our House, the People’s House, and spewed hate and violence from the spot where you normally stand. Mass carnage, mass murder, mass destruction all being committed in America’s name — with America’s bombs and America’s weapons and America’s money — all of which you sent him. Stop the slaughter now. Halt all weapons shipments. Halt all military aid. Demand the ceasefire. Put Bibi in the corner or in the timeout room and tell Israel to get its shit together, get to the negotiating table, and make a deal to end this madness, free the hostages in Gaza, free the political prisoners in Israel and stop this slaughter.

In May, your own State Department issued a report admitting that it was “reasonable to assess” that Israel has violated international humanitarian law — by using American weapons! In 1997, Senator Patrick Leahy conceived and introduced a law — now known as “the Leahy Law” — which prohibits the United States from funding and arming foreign military forces if the Secretary of State has “credible information” that this military unit is violating human rights. By continuing to arm the Israeli military after that report, the U.S. government is in violation of the Leahy Law. And do you know who is saying that we’re in violation of the Leahy Law? The guy who wrote the law! This past May, Patrick Leahy explained how our arming of Israel violates the very law he authored. We are funding a genocide, we are funding human rights abuses and war crimes, we are funding the breaking of international laws. And in the process, we are breaking our own laws! It is time for this to stop, and you have the power to stop it. It’s not anti-semitic. It’s not anti-Israel. It’s the opposite! It’s doing what any true best friend does: Tell you when you are effing up! And set you straight!

Oh — and it’s the law!

When there's so much rubble that you have to clear a route through the rubble in order to get supplies through.
When 2 out of every 3 roads has been cratered or blocked by rubble, and similarly 2/3 of all buildings collapsed or at least with major structural damage visible from orbit, every single water tower and water/sewage treatment facility and pumping station completely destroyed, every hospital bombed and shelled repeatedly - it would be a major miracle if civilian fatalities in Gaza were only around 10% (which would be ~220k).

Just like the civilian death toll from Russia encircling and levelling Mariupol alone (not even counting other cities) will never be known without huge error bands, unlikely the real civilian death toll in Gaza will ever be known. 5% of population? extremely unlikely to be that low. 10%? maybe, if feeling optimistic. 20%? certainly not out of range of possibility given level of destruction and nowhere to flee.

“a single death is a tragedy, a million deaths are a statistic”
