I'm having an issue with a Toshiba Satellite P105-S6227
The laptop gives me one heck of a time to power it on, once it does finally come on
it works flawlessly. It's like trying to jump start a old car in cold weather to get it to
power on though, it will start, the screen will blink, then click and it powers itself off.
this goes on for oh around 20-30 power cycles before it will finally power on and boot
into windows. Playing with different things, it powers on most effectively when I plug it
into a external monitor, pull the battery and plug in the AC cord. One thing I've noticed
is that when it's in windows after the long process of getting there the time and date
are almost always off this leads me to believe that it might be the CMOS battery failing.

My question for the forum is the obvious, has anyone else experienced these kind of problems
with this model? and where is the CMOS battery located on this laptop??

A couple of weeks ago my husband said that the screen was black although the computer powered on. I replaced the screen and it worked okay although when it went into hibernation it was difficult to get the screen on. Had to keep hitting FN button with F5 a number of times.

This morning, I powered the computer on, it worked for a while and then closed the screen down. Went to use it again and now it's doing what you are describing. I also smelled a burning smell coming from inside the computer AND it got very hot.

Waiting for a while to try again. Have taken the batter out and unplugged it. It may be time for a new computer.

I had a pretty wierd issue with a customer laptop last month. It would work perfectly with the power not plugged in and running off of battery. Plug the system in and it would start randomly rebooting and getting super hot. Take a stick of memory out and it ran perfectly again with the power plugged in. Wierd!

Long story short, got a new motherboard for the system ($250 was not too much for this customer!). After I replaced everything the system worked perfectly plugged in or not. I inspected the old board and there was a spot where it looked like a resistor had burned up. It was located amongst the power circuitry. I still have the board and not sure what I'm going to do with it yet, unless I can find someone who does micro soldering.

Probably not what you wanted to hear (motherboard replacement), but try running the system with a single stick of memory.
