Hello all this is my frist post here and its sad its about a prob and not just saying hi lol

ok now to the prob i got one of the ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe mobos and ive seemed to run into a prob that i have no clue whats wrong.the mobo works fine loads and does all things fine and fast now the prob comes in when i try to play Doom3,Doom3:RoE or Splinter Cell:CT after about say 5mins to 10 mins the system just shuts down with no warning or error massage

frist thing i thought of was cooling so i checked that frist.i checked with 3 progys and i checked the case reader and all say system is about 45c and go to maybe like 49c at times so i dont think that is bad

then i checked all my wireing and stuff all was ok there made sure nothing was hitting the mobo all good there

but this prob just seems to happen with just thoes games i can play World Of Warcraft for Hours and same of most game but it just seems like games like the ones i said up top and Far Cry are the ones that after 5 to 10 mins the comp will just shut down

i wrote ASUS about it and they replied that it sounded like a the mobo was hitting the case or someting and causeing a short :s but if that was the case would it do that on a regular basis?

any help on this matter will do or do u think i should just RMA it and get a new board ?

p.s allso my comp specs are in my sig it leads to a fourm but its a updated post of what is in my rig

How are you testing it under load?
Try Prime95 and memtest86(if you haven't)

Power supply problem? Sounds like when you're running a demanding game it shuts down on you. A game like HL2, Farcry, Doom3, stresses not only your CPU but your video card as well. This is probably pushing your system to the limits and that's why it's dying on you.

List your full hardware specs.

I had the exact same problem with Doom3. I reinstalled and used the Nforce 4 Standalone Kit v6.53 instead of the motherboard drivers that came with the board and also updated to the latest Detonator drivers for my vid card and the problem went away. Can play Doom for hours now with no problem.

Post this in the sli forum sticky someone else had that problem I think they did a fresh install on the windows, but I am not sure. Also might be latest drivers(nforce) some people have been having problems with them.

Might be a video driver issue then. SLI is relatively new technology. I'd try updating to the latest video drivers (use Driver Cleaner to clean out the old drivers before re-installing the new drivers). I'd also try using only one video card and see if the same problem persists.

thx for all the input guys

i went and did what Superfoot said he did and it still shuts down after 5min to 10mins of play with a high end game

im useing the latest drivesrs for Vid (71.89),Bios and chipset (vid drives are fresh installed)

i think i just got a bad board gona try and RMA it this week i hope the new mobo will work ok :s if i have the same prob with new mobo then i know its not the mobo and something i added ot some things not working with that mobo

cause i can play most games with no probs and can allso leave my system on for 24 hrs and it will not shutdown but as soon as i play the game i said with in 5 to 10 mins the system will just shutdown cold :s

Cypher the only time I ever experienced this problem was with a bad power supply. Just because it's rated high doesn't mean it's functioning properly. If you continue to have this issue try to do a power supply swap.

yeah iwearnosox i agree but i said i can do all stuff on this system and play allmost all games but the ones i listed so i think if it was a power issue it would happen alot more and it doesnt

and no Insomniak no OCing on this comp not for awile lol no real need ATM bigtime if i cant keep it stable

It's the drivers. This happened to me when I updated the vid driver and the chipset drivers to the latest officials on the NVIDIA site. Uninstall all nvidia drivers through the add/remove, download the new drivers but do not install yet. Download drive cleaner and then use that in safe mode to remove all remnants of the old drivers. Then install chipset/vid drivers in safe mode and reboot. This worked for me and resolved the computer exiting my games in the middle of playing etc.

Good possibility that you have a problem with the nVidia drivers. Visit the nVidia mobo forum and spend some time looking through the problems other NF4 users are reporting: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?s=f3...ead353326152f9b12af806c46&showforum=34
Some of the reported symptoms may look familiar to you

Do you have the nVidia firewall installed? It is the common denominator in many of the reported problems so if you're using it, try turning it off temporarily.

The odd thing is that the nVidia driver problems seem somewhat random, that is similar systems may not exhibit the same problem. In fact, a clean reload of XP and the nVidia drivers may improve things - but there is no way to tell except try it. See the info/rant I posted here:

ok looks like its been fixed what i did was installed the latest chipset drivers 6.53 did a lil Bios tweeking and uninstalled Nforce Firewall and BAM all works fine played Splinter Cell :Chaos Theory for a hour and half strait no shutdowns

From the way it looks it looked like the Nforce Firewall was the real prob it was shuting my system down for safety i think or just a bad error

but all seems ok now ill keep testing the other games i said and post if they are working too with no system shutdowns

thx to all that helped on this prob now back to gameing Bliss

p.s i allso forgot to say this is my frist Highend System (old System Dell 8100 1.3gig) and one that i built myself

I never installed the NV firewall to begin with, I use a diffrent firewall I installed the chipset drivers. I really like this board and it overclocks well.

update on this prob i started to play the games i have listed on frist post and lets just say it still shuts down so me and a friend sat there trying to fix the prob then it hit me

i started to play with the ram timeings and seen that at some setting the comp would run longer then shut down and some shut the system down alot faster

heres where the noobie mastake comes in i didnt check to c that ram works on this system in the QVL list for memory .so to make a long story short i got the wrong ram i got TWINX1024RE-3200LL and its not on the QVL list so im thinking that is my hole prob thats y i can do most stuff but when it came to things that need alot of ram my comp couldnt handle the load so it just shutdown

im about to oreder new ram but was wondering if anybody has used TWINXP1024-3200C2 or TWINX1024-3200C2PRO in this Mobo and how does it run ?

thx for the help and info

Try some valueram from the major sellers like Corsair. Expensive ram that runs at high speeds and low timings will give a boost but not a huge one (probably due to the efficiency of the integrated memory controller).

i think im just gona go with the 2gig TWINX2048-3200C2PT its been tested in this mobo.i know to 2gigs is a little overkill but its nice to have

The memory you currently have should work, even though it hasn't been officially tested. BTW, nice specs man. I wish I could have a killer rig like that.

The first thing coming to mind when you have a full power-off shutdown is CPU overheat, and the second is PSU issues. If the PSU overheats, that would do it... is the case in an open area where it can get enough cool air, and does it have good airflow (in at the front, out at the rear)?

Also, uh... ThermalScum power supply. 680W or not, I wouldn't be using that brand. But I'm strange that way

thx man ive been saveing and came into the rest of the cash and siad if i build im gona build big

and yeah it works fine but on full loads like Doom3 or Splinter Cell:CT it just shuts down the system

and naa all my temps are fine and the power is fine too i think its just a ram issue eather bad ram or not good in this mobo

Could you tell me your Ram timings? I mean the timings that you have set in your Bios and the order in which you have set them in your Bios.

"The memory timings is a very particular matter: You should already know the capabilities of your Ram memory, if not, please, ask or get informed somehow.
I am telling you this because I do not recommend you to let the timings on AUTO mode since the motherboard sets very relaxed timings usually and that means lower performance, that?s why you should know the overclocking potential of your Ram modules as well as their aproppriate timings.
Entering the RAM timings in the Bios: For the rookies this may be tricky that?s why I am going to explain you the following: Imagine you have a DDR memory module with these timings printed on your ram 2´5-3-3-7 The first number (2´5) always represents CAS Latency (?Tcl? in Bios) as it's usually the most important. The second number (3) represents RAS-to-CAS Delay (?Trcd in Bios?), the third one (3) represents Row Precharge Time (?Trp? in Bios) and the last one (7) represents the Min RAS Active Time (?Tras? in Bios) (which is always the final, and largest number). So, be careful when setting the timings!!" (extracted from one of my short guides)

Also especify the Nforce4 drivers version and the Video drivers version: suggestion 6.53 and 76.45 WHQL respectively. (First uninstall the Graphics card drivers trough control panel and then Run "Driver cleaner 3" wizard: select Nvidia)
Driver cleaner 3
Nvidia Nforce4 SLI Drivers v6.53
Nvidia Graphics card drivers WHQL v76.45 (only for Geforce 6 series)
Have you installed the Xp Pro service pack 2? It is important.
Windows Xp Pro Service Pack 2
Have you installed Directx9c?
DirectX 9.c
Which Bios are you using?
Latest final Bios for Asus A8N SLI Deluxe 1008 (choose the China server, never fails)
Have you connected the Ez-Plug?
Hope to hear from you, body!

the times i am useing now are 2-3-2-6 that is what this ram can do TWINX1024RE-3200LL thats timeings off the ram and all my Bios and drivers are up-to-date.

looking at the QVL list for this mobo and matching it upto Corsairs Memory chart all the ram they tested in this mobo has a * next to it me meaning These parts support 2-3-3-6 latency on Intel platforms, and 2.5-3-3-6 latency on AMD platforms.

and the ram i have doesnt have the *

**Update On This Prob**

well it was the RAM i just got TWINX2048-3200C2PT and put it in Dimm A1 and B1 like the user guide says and bam!! the games i listed play now without shutingdown my system

the Ram i had before TwinX1024RE-3200LL would not install in the Dimm slots as up top does.if i put them in that way when i started the comp up it would give a beep and the comp would not load anything.so i tryied and put it in a diffrent dimm slot i put it in Dimm B1 and dimm B2 so i think that is ware my prob was at it did the same thing if i put them in Dimm A1 and dimm A2

and with the new 2gb of ram thia comp is a monster now lol game load times just shoot across lol so thx for all the advice
