Question Issue with disk cleanup and recycle bin?

Has anyone seen this? I don't empty it that often so I just noticed this:

I saw that several times recently when I ran Disk Cleanup [Windows 10 1903] and told it to empty the recycle bin, once it completed I opened the recycle bin and everything was still there.

I had to manually empty the recycle bin afterward.

Can anyone else reproduce this? It's a small annoying bug, but still - should be easy enough to fix if so!

Use the portable freeware of cCleaner. It will clean the Recycle Bin and you can even set it up to do a secure clean.

Run it before you use Disk CleanUp, it is fast and it cleans some stuff that DiskCleanUp do not clean, and small part of what Disk Cleanup do clean.

Then Run Disk CleanUp it would a little faster since it has less to clean after cCleaner.

backup/close your OS/data and check the OS data drive and its partitions with testing software

could be mobo/ram/disk failure, glitch or other related issue

Recycle bin problems are well known with Win7/8/10. If you have partitions other than the primary one and/or attached HDDs it could be just one of those the recycle bin content is not being deleted by the clean up tool.

CCleaner I'd recommend too as it will list the paths to the files being deleted and makes it easier to identify if it is a particular partition/drive that the recycle bin contents are not being deleted.

Watch out with the installed version of CCleaner that you opt out of any AVAST trial promotion that might be included.

Back on topic: the usual cure all solution for recycle bin problems is to reset it.

I'd actually run System File Checker (SFC) first before doing that.
