Greetings,
I work as an IT, but I am having an issue that no one seems to understand and that I have never seen before, allow me to elaborate.
I have a gaming desktop for which I bought an external DVD/Bluray drive. The drive reads and sees the disk as UDF (usually) and it gives me the correct name of the movie on it and I can hear it spind, but it is unable to play it, or when I manage to get a part to play, I have either no video or the sound is wonky or both the sound and videos are horrible and choppy. With VLC, it give mes a progress bar going from 00:00:50 to 00:00:50 and it stops there. Same goes if I transfer one of the VTS_XX_X file on the computer and try to read it. I did multiple steps to see what the problem could be. I tried muliple disks and even though the issue might differ from one disk to another, none can be read properly (I used mostly official DVD or blueray movies). I checked and rechecked and all my drivers are up to date. I updated both the firmware and the bios. I tried on windows 10 and 11 both with fresh installs. I also tried multiple USB-A and USB-C ports and they all failed to make it work properly. I tried different software and it does the same on all of them. I tried another external drive and the same issue happens (both of these drives are new). Thinking maybe the power going in my USB was off I also tried using the power cable coming with the drive that is optionnal but still, same problem. I tried ripping one of the DVD I own and it ripped it, but it took way too long and it was choppy and terribly pixelated.
I am out of ideas of what to try next. Those drives work fine or a laptop and another desktop on which I checked and my USB ports are able to make other devices work fine. The 2 options left to check is...could it be a windows update (windows 10 latest update and windows 11 might be similar to a certain extent which could explain the bug on both OS) or my motherboard is broken is some weird and complex way that I don't quite understand.
Any help would be appreciated. If you have any ideas of something I haven't tried.
Thank you and have a good day.
