Issues getting computer to start

Hey all

Once again, my computer hates me. I go to start it, and it will go to the point where it asks me how I'd like windows to start, safe mode, ect. No matter the option I pick, it goes to a black screen and freezes. I didn't install any new hardware or anything out of the ordinary, it just seems to have shat on me.

Specs:

Processor: E8500
Mobo: Intel DX48BT2
PSU: 1100 watt
GPU: 9800 GTX 256 meg
OS: Vista Ultimate 64 bit


I've tried putting in the OS dick and seeing if it can fix itself, but that hasn't seemed to help any. I've swapped out ram sticks, no effect. Taken the computer apart, put it back together, no effect. Taken out the CMOS battery for giggles, no effect.

Thoughts Sirs? Any input would be appreciated. Ideally I don't want to take the next step and see if I can reformat the hard drive, so any other things to check would be great.

try http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392 to repair the boot sector. Could be a bad HDD or bad sectors that are causing it to not load. I had an issue with vista where it would give me the vista logo then go blank, screen saver would come on but nothing else come up on the screen. I just had to reinstall, I have no idea what happened . Good Luck

Boot to your XP disk, go to repair console, then run "chkdsk /p"

Booting with an XP disk isn't going to help a Vista install.
