"Around 20,000 Chinese farmers and laid-off workers have rioted in central China.

Nine police cars were burnt during the riot in the central province of Hunan.

The protesters clashed with about 1,000 police armed with guns and electric cattle prods, a local official said.

'They did it because they were not satisfied with some government behaviour,' the official from the Hunan city of Yongzhou said.

'They were also unhappy about official corruption.'"

This riot stuff happens all the time in China. It's not even news anymore, kind of like carjacking in the USA.

I saw in the news there was a big one in Shenzen 6 months ago. Forgot what it was about, something about poor people...something something

On Monday, truckloads of armed police officers descended on an area of rural Hunan near the village of Zhushan to restore order. Some witness accounts on an overseas Chinese Web site, Boxun claimed that demonstrators refused to leave government offices in the area and that anti-riot police had used force to remove them.
