IT IS ALIVE!

Buy.com has this printer for $84.99 with FREE shipping or $74.99 for new Google Checkout customers.

Buy.com Sku: 202598349

I again phoned the HP's rebate center at 888-385-5410 and spoke with CSR, Daniel, CSR #54554. He confirmed that this offer is valid from buy.com and ANY other store, other than Bestbuy or Office Max. For reference, this is the same thing that I was told by CSR, Paul -- CSR #3440 and CSR, Kevin, CSR -- CSR #53324.

Important note -- This offer is HP Rebate offer S104. I have since found another HP rebate offer for the same amount that is NOT the same offer. The other offer does require buying the printer at a higher price. THIS ONE DOES NOT.

===

The original Circuit City deal is dead, but the printer is still avaliable at a great price.

HP LaserJet 1018 (CB419A)

Ways to save more:

Here's another way to save if you live in the San Fernando Valley area of L.A., All Electronics has various USB cables for $2.00 - $3.00.

Although the deal looks hot there is a lot of debate about whether or not HP will fulfill your rebate, check HERE at Fatwallet to get an idea of what you are in for if you buy this printer.

I phoned the HP Rebate Center at the toll free number and spoke with CSR, Paul, CSR #3440, who confirmed this rebate is valid when purchased at Circuit City. He said it is NOT valid from Best Buy or Office Max, in store or online, but ONLY because they give the rebate at time of purchase.

The terms of the offer do NOT require you to purchase the printer from an authorized HP dealer. The terms of the offer just say you can submit the rebate form electronically if you do. Terms of the rebate offer:

Mail to: BTS 07 LJ 1018 MIR, Offer S104, P.O. Box 650001, El Paso, TX 88565-0001

RECEIVE: your rebate check as specified. Allow 8?10 weeks for processing. If terms and conditions are not met, rebate check will not be sent. Claims postmarked or received after applicable dates and incomplete or illegible submissions will be returned as ineligible. HP is not responsible for any claims lost, damaged or delayed in transit. Rebate check is void if not cashed within 90 days of issuance and cannot be reissued. ELECTRONIC SUBMISSION: If offered by an HP authorized retailer, you may submit your mail-in rebate electronically instead of postal mail. This will eliminate the need to send in the proof of purchase (invoices/sales receipt, UPC label). Please see retailer website for specific terms and conditions to meet their submission requirements.

GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS: Offer good on purchases made between July 29, 2007 and September 30, 2007 of an HP LaserJet 1018 (CB419A). Products purchased before or after these dates are not eligible for this offer. Purchase date is determined by invoice or receipt date. This offer may not be combined with any other national HP or reseller offers. Offer not valid on refurbished or demo HP products. Offer is limited to product on hand and NO substitutions with other products are eligible. Only one entry type (electronic or mail-in) per qualifying product purchased. All orders that have qualifying product(s) that have been cancelled, or products that have been returned, are NOT eligible for a rebate. This includes mail-in rebate forms or electronic submissions. Keep copies of materials submitted; originals become HP property and will not be returned. HP reserves the right to request additional information regarding this claim, regardless of paper or electronic submission. False information disqualifies this claim, making it subject to review under U.S. Postal Regulations. Violators may be prosecuted. HP reserves the right to modify or withdraw this promotion at any time. HP products may not be returned for refund once the rebate claim has been submitted. Only purchases made by an end-user customer or a commercial business from an authorized HP reseller in the United States and its territories are valid. Purchases by HP resellers and internal HP orders are ineligible. Offer void where prohibited, taxed or restricted by law. If you
have any questions regarding this offer, please call the HP and Compaq Rebate Center at 1-888-385-5410.

There are customer reviews on Circuit City's site, as well as Newegg's and others. As I said, it's not the greatest printer, but if you only need good text, as long as the print quality's good, you get to print 1,000 pages for $15 plus the cost of paper while you're looking for that perfect deal on a better one.

Roll the dice if you like. Some got lucky already, others got a big rebate headache. I don't want the aggravation, and would only buy when the merchant is advertising this rebate on the product page.

Many who bought the $80 printers had HP deny their rebates due to special promotional pricing in effect. The current form would have you "Please see retailer website for specific terms and conditions to meet their submission requirements. "

Earlier versions of the deal had the printer for about $130 at some sites, with a $65 rebate, and other sites were around $80, without any rebate offer shown by the seller.

I've had nothing but positive experiences with HP rebates, having received >$1000 worth of rebates from HP in the last 2 years. All of the purchases were on sale, including those popular 5300 DDR2 modules ($56 - 40). HP has many rebates that repeat all through the year--it's not going to skimp out on a few dollars and get bad press in return, meaing HP didn't just offer this rebate once to lure people into buying the product. HP rebates rules are also quite simple to follow.

When I go to CC I see two rebate offers:

$50 mail-in rebate on combined PC and select HP printer purchase

$50 mail-in rebate with any PC

Yes Harvey, I agree, as the CSR states either of these (actually they both appear to be the same rebate--are good.

However as I see it, you MUST buy a PC to qualify for the second $50. The first $50 appears to be already taken (or rather given) in the sale price.

I suggest that you will not end up for this printer at $14.99 unlessyou buy a PC with it at the same time.

Buyer beware.

I suggest you didn't follow the link in my OP for a $65 rebate directly from HP. This is NOT the same as either of the $50 MIR's from CC for the combo deal, and it does NOT require buying anything else.

I repeat -- I spoke with the CSR from HP's rebate center, NOT from CC.

If you're lucky, you may be able to get BOTH the HP rebate AND one of the CC rebates, but you'll have to negotiate with CC's rebate center if there's any conflict about requirements for the original UPC sticker.

That's why I posted the HP CSR's name and ID number. They seldom argue with that.

check the fatwallet thread.

they only have to hold u to a technicality to deny the rebate and then u are up sh*t creek.

I'll definitely pick this up if we can verify that people aren't getting screwed on the rebate.

I just phoned HP's rebate center again. This time, I spoke with CSR, Kevin, CSR #53324. He explicitly confirmed that this offer is valid for purchases from circuitcity.com at the $79.99 price.

He could NOT have been more explicit or clear on the subject. Neither can I.

He also said it would not conflict with the either of the CC $50 CC rebates when combined with a computer purchase because they are CC rebates, not an HP offer. Both offers require the original UPC sticker so if you want to try that, phone BOTH rebate centers to resolve the issue, and write down the CSRs names and ID numbers. As always, make copies of everything you submit.

Reading the FatWallet thread, it looks like some people have been burned because they paid less than MSRP ($129.99). I don't think I'll be risking it.

I'm more inclined to believe two different HP CSR's who gave me their ID numbers than some of those posters on FW. If you still have doubts about your own purchase, the toll free number on the HP rebate form is 888-385-5410. Call them, and get your own confirmation before you buy.

It could still fall through, but I'd be very suprised.

I just spoke with HP rebate. The representative, the Indian-accent lady, told me that the $65 rebate is valid to all retailers except OfficeMax and Bestbuy.

more reports of invalid rebate at cc on slickdeals. gag it seems to be the special -$50 bit off part that throws it off
