Shipping's now up to $9.99, making it $25 AR. I guess I was just lucky picking up up with free shipping when I did.

I got the good deal a few days back. This printer rocks. We've been using a 5L since they came out, it was so slow. This thing kicks out the first page in the 10 second bracket. Excellent. Guess I'll send in the rebate stuff.

I got mine today, I don't think it's as good as everyone said.
It takes a long time to start printing and it's very noise during printing. It even makes some noise when there is no printing job at all. The introductory cartridge prints only 750 - 1000 pages. My last laser printer was NEC Superscript 875, though it's parallel connection, but I think it's not slower than this. It's also quiet and the cartridge came with the printer is 3000 pages! I used it for more than 5 years and it was perfect.
Of course, the $20, maybe I shouldn't compaint so much.

Holy cow, you're complaining about a $10 laser printer. Shut up. My last printer was an HP 812c and this thing eats it for breakfast. We don't care if this isn't faster than some laser printers you paid over $200-300 for. It's like going into a thread about a $350 laptop and saying you should get a Macbook Pro instead.

Can't say I'm surprised

First off, a non-working $10 printer is like throwing $10 away. Pointing out that this printer is a Windows GDI only printer can only be helpful to others, or at least alert them to the limitations of this printer and perhaps save them some grief should they not be Windows users. (and Apple is #3 laptop maker in the world after all...)

Bootcamp, et al, is not a transparent solution for printing. Let's say I want to print something out of, say WriteRoom on my Mac. The only way would be to "print" out a PDF, then load that PDF in a Windows program to print it out. You can't even network share this POS for other systems, because it's a driver issue in what you send (network shares are effectively proxies, nothing more).

Apparently, you have an anti Mac bent as evidenced by your other post(s) in this forum and the only reason I'm responding this late. $200 for a color laser printer is a good price today. It's also an apples and oranges comparison (no pun intended). That color printer is also network ready to make it even more lopsided (yes, it's like comparing a Toyota 4Runner to a Yugo). I'd rather have a printer that works with all my systems and doesn't require a dedicated machine for remote printing. The fact that it is capable of color is that much sweeter. (OMG, my needs aren't yours! The world doesn't solely revolve around you! OMG! The Apocalypse!)

Typical mac fanboy talk .

The printer works great and for $10 blows away my old injet printer which cost me a lot more when I first got it. I have a dedicated color printer for when I need that and the toner cartridges for this can be had for $40-70 so that's an awesome deal IMV. For ~2000pgs black, that's a good deal. Most of the time I'm not printing in color so a color laser printer would be massive overkill. I've got a couple photo printers I got cheap on similar deals and they do their job for when I actually need color.

I love it how the fanboys only comeback when someone critiques macs is to say they're a windows fanboy and anti-mac. That's bs in this case, as you'd realize if you'd actually read my posts.

I bought a refurb mac mini this past weekend and it should arrive next week. If you'd actually read my complaints with mac, you'd realize I'm not opposed to mac as much as Apple/Job's massively inflating hardware costs for people's systems. And yes, I consider iPods overpriced as well when there's plenty of great players that do the same or better for less. I never said they were bad though or that they weren't nice and shiny.

In terms of your Toyota/Yugo comparison, I'd say you're entirely right. This is not the same as a $200 color laser printer, nor would I expect to get one for $10. YOU were the one who made this apple to orange comparison incorrectly. I realize this doesn't fit your needs, but how does it help the forums if there's a deal for a 32" LCDTV for $50 and you say "this is awful - I need at least a 50" 1080p Sony". The answer is that it doesn't help at all.

This printer kicks ass for what it is and it gets really good toner-life for it's price, but this is hardly a non-working printer. Sure you wouldn't get a bunch of these for your business office, but for an individual wanting a good basic monochrome printer this is a great deal.

I think you have too high expectations for this laser-printer, considering the price, considering that it's a laser printer for $10 and a pretty good one for that price.

But maybe my needs are different and I should say that this is an awful printer because I want a full-featured laser printer that I can mount in the glove compartment in my car and I want it to have a builtin Quad core machine with laptop components that has a video out touchscreen to replace the standard radio section.

You're telling people that this isn't as good as a printer that costs 20x the price. WOAH! Well no surprise, Sherlock. I guess we're all so challenged that we can't figure that out in 2 seconds on our own.

Got mine set up today, fast set up no problems. Running XP on a PC. The printer is a little more noisy than my HP inkjet. Not a big deal to me. The best part is that I can't believe how fast it is.

Three of my friends started Google Checkout accounts and got the extra $10 off WITH free shipping. It's not the default, but it's an available option.

Doing a bit of troubleshooting on mine... I thought it might help some others.
If you print something that has an image on it and the very right hand side of the page there is a vertical line, here is the fix.

Control Panel -> Printers and Faxes -> Right click on HP LaserJet 1018 -> Printing Preferences

Finishing Tab -> Change Print Quality to FastRes 1200 from 600 dpi.

well it cost a lot lot more when it came out long ago...and thats not even accounting for inflation. probably used a lot more power on standby as well. print speed is after the thing spools up, if you print one page at a time with large gaps sure yea it takes a moment. thats how it is. at the current speed of laser you can only really tell its faster if you print say a batch of 50 at once...

I bought this printer from Quill.com some time ago. They first sent me a card of rejection base on the sale price being low. Then a week later I got an email that my rebate has been validated and 3 weeks later the check came.
So the rebate is good. You just need patient.

I have received notification that my rebate has been received and that it met the eligibility requirements, so final cost will be just a little under $10!!!!
