Doesn't the job of speaker involve necessary and important admin work? I really have no idea, don't know what the job involves, but I suspect if there's any important-but-non-visible-and-boring aspect to it, it will not get done with Trump in the post, and the system will fall apart.

Sounds like a job for the Kush. Jared can fix anything.

Not really. The speaker could easily delegate those duties if they wanted to. It’s an important post for political reasons but not very important for administrative ones.

lol how the mighty sarah palin has fallen.
waaaaaaaaaaaaay behind her dem opponent despite major name recognition.

so R's have a projected 222 seats, or 5 seat majority.
that's the same as the dems in 2020-2022.

lets see if mccarthy is as skillful as pelosi in keeping his rank and file in line

Don't forget, you have 2 Republicans running in Alaska. If you add Begich and Palin together, they'd have more votes than Peltola. Also 435-222 is 213 giving R's a 9 seat majority (still slim).

ah.. i was doing:
218 is majority (+1) so (222-218) is +4 more

sigh.. +9 means less of a clown show.
*sad popcorn*

hm.. some sites are giving R's 221 projection so +7 for mccarthy.
i'm assuming they think Gray will win?

Pelosi wasnt that great keeping her rank and file in line.

Inside Nancy Pelosi’s War With AOC and the Squad - POLITICO

Pelosi was famous for having what POLITICO once described as “an iron fist in a Gucci glove.” There was no better example of that than her dealings with the Squad, the quartet of progressive women elected in 2018. She hadn’t survived as the top Democrat in the House for nearly two decades by ignoring challenges or challengers. Instead, she applied the lessons she had learned to win them over, or at least keep them at bay.

edit: The most difficult but not insignificant thing the next speaker will need to deal with are Trump republicans vs non-Trump republicans.

yup.. that's the clown show i was looking forward to but with +9 majority, he can ignore Majory Green and her ilk while still maintaining control.

I think it’s going to be straight up WWE regardless. Grifters have embraced the crazy.

For the fiascos that have happened over the last 24 months, the least of which is the continual invasion by millions of foreign nationals in America.

We deserve answers.
here's your answer:
our failed war on drugs and constant political interference devastated central and south american countries, leaving the population desiring populist, authoritarian leaders.
faced with little economic opportunity and drug violence, people flee to the US to seek a better life.

you want to change things? end the war on drugs and provide support for these countries that will result in economic opportunity and political stability.

Wow that would be awesome if Congress actually took up its Constitutional duty and reformed immigration policy. Even better if they investigated foreign policy that harms economies in developing countries and sends their impoverished populaces north looking for better opportunity.

But of course, you're not talking about any of that.

It’s funny how ‘actually solving the problem he claims to dislike’ never even occurred to him.

God no. That would send reverberations of fear radiating out of his amygdala setting to flame greedy thoughts that all that foreign aid will come straight out of the gravy bowl sitting on his dining room table. Billions have been spent by the wealthy who would doubtless have to foot much of the bill to bring such progress about but choose instead to put their money toward creating this now autonomic reflex. It's not much more difficult than teaching a dog to bark.

That's because conservatives only know how to solve problems with hammers.

But seriously, they are in my experience rarely if ever concerned with the root causes of problems. Instead to them every issue can be 'easily' solved through 'common sense' and brute force. And if that doesn't work, they'll double down on more of the same and blame everyone else.

You're crazy. 220 and 218 are functionally equivalent. Mac doesn't currently have the votes to be elected Speaker, and he may not unless he completely prostrates himself to the Freedumb Caucus.

Republicans Are in for Two Years of Hell
Trump and the Freedom Caucus are going to unleash chaos in their own party.

hm.. thought his only problem was the Trump nuts.
never heard about the repub freedom caucus before in 2020-2022??

also, mccarthy's razor-thin margin with a notably unruly caucus:
does it matter that much if he has a +9 margin vs +7 margin? (one of the uncalled house races in CA is a dead heat)

Remember when boener stepped down because he had enough of the tea party republicans? I expect more of that except with more incompetence because surely McCarthy will be worse than boener was and boener was pretty bad.

Don't forget Paul Ryan. He just gave up.

Republican House majorities eat their Speakers.

Sometimes problems can only be solved by force. You know, actually follow immigration and labor law.

That sounds hard can’t we just demonize the brown people and shoot them at the border?
