It is the simple songs.

It seems that it is the simple songs that seem to be really cool and oddly powerful. There are 3 that always strike me.

Chris Stapleton - Whiskey and You

Sugerland - Stay. She sings the hell out of it

The all time classic and never to be duplicated
John Lennon - Image

What are others you can think of?

Before anyone can ask, my definition of a simple song is a singer and one instrument and maybe a drummer. That is all.

WOW do I like this Chris Whitley. So sorry to read he died too young. Makes me think of Stevie Ray Vaughn who died too young too. They had a lot of music left in them.

I had never hear of Warren Haynes either, thanks for introducing me to him. I will listen to more of him also.

Warren is incredible. I've been on a Warren binge the last few days actually.

My input:

Mark Knopfler - Romeo & Juliet (Acoustic), https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Sfwgur0JPs

The Beatles - Blackbird .... I shouldn't have to link this. The foot-tap heard 'round the world.

Grace Potter - Stars, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_INlMhECFA

John Mayer - Belief (Any song from the Village Sessions, really), https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4WYP1zGNfI

Eric Clapton - Rambling on my Mind. Was actually at this show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BvwlxRwY5w

Still working on the posts above but while reading then I was reminded of Bon Jovi doing Hallelujah. So funny you should post this, must just be one hell of a song. The guitar in this one was great and he was into it!!

Here is Bon Jovi - Hallelujah (although this does break my rule because there is more than one instrument involved) Although he is into singing this song.

I was also going to put "Green Day - Good Riddance (Time of your Life)" but it uses a Guitar, Violin & Cello. Another possibility (but not within the rulesI think) is "Shinedown - Call Me", might fit the rules but wasn't sure.

Great thread, it has been a good listen. I really got a laugh at one of the comments on the Sugerland vid. He said is sounded so much like the studio version he thought it might be lip synced. LOL, that woman can perform. Just look at the huge list of live duets with her and it obvious.

There is some awesome music in this thread. Plus some people I never heard of and will definitely be getting some of their music.

SK, I never read the comments on the Sugarland song. That is a funny comment. The thing that struck me while watching her perform that was the emotion she put into it. Definitely not lip syncing.

Listening to the great music I was reminded one Simon and Garfunkel bridge over troubled waters. Love how he stands there with his hands in his pockets and sounds so freaking awesome. Especially in front of 500,000 people.

Curse you Butch, it took me 7 years, 4 months and 14 days to get that song out of my head.

Unless you are talking about the Muppet version.

Why would anyone mind having thus song stuck in their head?, it's an amazing song from an amazing artist that we lost way to early. Also since no one else posted it, "Taxi" by Harry Chapin. One of a kind song if ever there was one. He performed it live on the Johnny Carson show to such accolades JC had him return THE NEXT DAY! and perform it again, this was the only time JC had ever done this.
