Look at sig. This is an example when you shouldn't upgrade but you still buy more computers... I'm in a little bit of debt but not as much as you'd think...

I tend to shuffle parts around to take the edge off of new computer computers and then upgrade a part or two every few months, but then with the spare parts, I eventually have enough to build a whole new computers... and hey. Look. I have too many now! (So I F@H)

I love piecing together a new system. There's not much that's more satisfying than firing it up the firs time!

Eww, reading manuals is absolute fail, except maybe a Motherboard manual to get the front panel stuff right the first time...

I'm at least another 2 years out from my next build, unfortunately. I take consolation in the fact that what I will get then will blow my laptop (xp, 150gb hd, integrated graphics, 2gb ram, 2.1ghz c2d, 13" screen) out of the water.

I was planning to upgrade my computer but decided to wait until 2013 when hardware will be faster.

My current desktop computer is a:

Pentium 4 3.2 GHZ on Intel Motherboard
1 GB of RAM
74 GB Raptor and 320 GB Seagate drives
Radeon 9800 Pro Video Card
Audigy 2 Sound Card

Can't wait until January to build a replacement.

All of my previous computers have been hand-me-downs which I've upgraded with barely-adequate parts to keep them ticking over for years. So a couple of weeks ago I build my first system from the ground up with all new, shiny parts working harmoniously together. It's wonderful.

I'm in the same boat kranky. I ordered a HD4670 (low power 1GB version) with intentions of building an HTPC. Damn Cyber Monday came along and now I have a Core I5, Biostar board and 4GB of PC1600 Patriot DDR3 ram. Now whether to place the HD4670 card in there alone, get another one for crossfire or move my 8800GTS 512Meg card in there.

The itch that gets the economy going, lol!

Was it worth it?
Oh, most definitely yes. Even though there were issues moving email over.

I'm doing my part, Engineer, and clearly you are doing yours!

I love putting together a new PC. I've upgraded this one but haven't built a full system in over 2 years now. Probably won't do another for some time yet as this system still handles everything just fine. I love it though, I was also very lucky with my current build. Put it all together, posted first try. Tons of fun.

I think my last big upgrade was five years ago for half life 2. Now the pc is just used for the net and pictures and basic stuff like that.

I have no interest in upgrading or building PCs anymore. Laptops are where it’s at.

and I thought I was doing good

my last real upgrade was march / april 07

Q6600 but that was just processor / memory

I have gotten 2 hard drives (1.5 TB) and just ordered an SSD

and 2x 30" monitors (Jan 2009)

I am trying to wait till after starcraft 2 /diablo 3 to upgrade. I know people say blizzard games don't stress your hardware but I don't really care. My current machine (7800 GTX, 6 GB ram, Q6600) doesn't even run WoW as well as I'd like but I quit playing last May.
