Did anyone who ordered this online get the following email:

"Dear Circuit City customer:

Congratulations on your recent purchase of a ReplayTVr
digital video recorder. We would just like to take a
moment and make sure you're aware of a recent change
in ReplayTVr's service fee and guide you through the
activation process.

Effective Dec. 17 ReplayTVr service and activation now
require either a one-time fee of $299.99 that's good
for the life of the unit, or a monthly fee of $12.95.
Once you've set up your digital video recorder, simply
push the Main Menu button on the ReplayTVr remote control
and select "Setup", followed by "Service Activation" to
get started. It's quick and easy!

Thank you for your time and for shopping at Circuit City."

I picked mine up about 2 hours ago, and it had a green sticker stating the 3 year subscription. I'm just wondering if I should now go ahead and activate ASAP or what. Or if the sticker itself is proof enough.

I got this message:
We're sorry. As you placed your order through our on-line affiliate Amazon.com,
your item sold out at the Circuit City store you selected. We genuinely regret
the inconvenience.

Doh.

Copied from a post on Chubby:

"To those who are trying to activate your units. If the setup screen doesn't tell you to activate, you are already activated, so you don't need to activate on the web.

Per this copied from the Replay TV activation page:

"Select "Service Activation."
(Note: if you do not see the "Service Activation" item in the Setup menu, you are already activated.)

The "Service Activation" screen displays your Service Key, which includes your Model number, Serial number, and three-digit activation key."

If the setup doesn't show you the "Service Activation" screen (as opposed to the voluntary "Registration" screen - you don't have to activate the unit. "

I'm setting up mine right now, and don't see any "Activation" stuff listed. My Unit info still say "Not Registered" but I think that's for the web registration stuff. We'll see in a few hours/days if I get the "Enabled" or equivalent....fingers crossed.

Read the whole thread. I don't think there was a single CC store in America that had the new units that are to retail for $149.99. Those are being shipped currently as we speak.

Both of the ones I got today work liked like a charm and include the 3 year subscription.

Very hot deal for those that jumped.

$450 is definately NOT HOT

If it has the GREEN STICKER, it's got the subscription service included. Simple as that.

If you go to CC next week, you'll see ReplayTV boxes that do not have this sticker. Those do not include the subscription. It was our lucky day that CC had stock on the shelves because any ReplayTV 5504 shitting in their storewith the green sticker includes the subscription. I don't care what any CSR, email, or sign in/from CC says. It's the same unit they were selling on Sunday and includes the subscription.

So close...

Went to CC today, they were out of them, and all nearby stores were too. Oh well, I didn't really want one, to tell the truth.

Continued some Christmas shopping, heading out to Fry's. Noticed they had the 40hr 3yr one for $499 so I thought "what the hell" and aproached some guy and asked him what Fry's pricematch policy is. He called CC and said "yep, they do have them for $149... but they are out of stock." The guy was nice though and said he would just "forget" to mention they were out of stock, and went to write up the pricematch for me. He comes back a few mins later and says "oh, the one at CC doesn't come with service so the best I could do is sell this one to you for $149+1 yr of service." Would have still been a good deal I suppose, but I never really wanted one that bad in the first place so I didn't take it.

Southcenter/Renton WA stores btw.

Does anyone know if Replay TV will work with Optimum Online? I'm having a heck of a time getting it working over here. My friend said that Optimum Online doesn't forward port 80, and Replay TV says it needs ports 80, 123, and 80 to be open. Any/all help would be appreciated.

I know this isn't a "hot deal", but I'm sure lots of people have Optimum Online and would appreciate knowing whether or not they should even consider this PVR. Thanks.

Ripped out my computer from the network and then was able to connect and get information. My box says "not registered", but I'm hoping this isn't the same as "not activated" as I was able to get the channels and other information. I did try the "243 Zones" to try and force a net connect, but that didn't seem to work as it said it had a problem.

I'm pretty sure the "Not registered" relates to registration on the website. I had that message too, and registered. A few hours later, after forcing a connect, my Service is now "Registered".

Well, in St. Louis, the Circuit City's are out of stock online, and instore. Each store seemed to have one or two on 'on-line order hold'. I did Special Order one, though, so we'll see what happens. Also, Best Buy has these at $149 too, but all the area stores were out of stock (Carbondale Illinois showed 8 of them), and the 5080's all showed the $12.95 orange subscription sticker (and a much higher price). Just sharing my afternoon with those in the area, and keeping my fingers crossed.

Can anyone confirm that Best Buy has these too? I don't see it online, too many Best Buys around the area to call.

I just plugged in my ReplayTV and configured it. I had no problem authorizing and was not asked to pay any fees. I bought and pick up the ReplayTV at Circuit City through Amazon in Roanoke, VA today. Looks like the people with the green sticker are golden, while everybody else has to pay.

So far I haven't read a single story of someone who purchased one at a CircuitCity store today and DIDN'T find it pre-activated. As one would expect. If anyone knows of a CircuitCity unit purchased today that was NOT pre-activated, please share it. Otherwise, I think it's safe to assume they were all so-activated.

I've also been reading reports that "3 year" units are essentially lifetime, since they're upgrading existing 3-year people to lifetime, and thus we'd be upgraded too.

a) Is this true? Or has anyone else heard of this
b) How is it distinguished in the Sys. Info. screen that we're 3 year or lifetime or month-to-month?

Got mine also from CC with the green sticker. No where in the process did it ask for me to activate it, so i am guessing it too is golden!! The Service did state not registered, so hopefully that will not be a problem...

Thanks for the deal!!

Drove 1 hour to CC and got two units. Salesman said they now require registaration but they had stickers and one worked fine the other is giving me a Network Socket Error. I will call tech support tomorrow.

Any thoughts to what this means?

After reading the fatwallet thread, I went to my local radio shack and picked up 2 ReplayTV 5040's for $150+tax each. One was the demo unit, the other brand new. Both had a red sticker saying activation needed ($9.95 per month or $250 lifetime). When I got home, I called the customer service, and the guy told me they were activated for 3 years. Score!

just checked my system information, and it says

"Activated (one-time fee paid)"

anybody know if this means it's lifetime or 3 year service?

i believe its 3 years and after that it will be .99/month which is still a great deal.
I just found 2 at radio shack (actually he is having them shipped in from another store) I hope they have the 3 year membership!
