After reading the fatwallet thread, I went to my local radio shack and picked up 2 ReplayTV 5040's for $150+tax each. One was the demo unit, the other brand new. Both had a red sticker saying activation needed ($9.95 per month or $250 lifetime). When I got home, I called the customer service, and the guy told me they were activated for 3 years. Score!

I just scored as well at Radio Shack. I just bought the floor model (with green sticker) in the Potrero, San Francisco Radio Shack. It is pre-activated. A 5040 model. It was on the shelf for $450, but I told him it would scan at $150. They were very nice about it in the store - they even spent some time cleaning off the display tape and wiping off the dust.
So far, so good. It's recording as I speak.
I am particularly pleased because I jumped as soon as I saw the deal, got my Amazon/TechDepot order in by 8am PST, then they sent me email around 12pm saying the order was cancelled.

"Activated (one-time fee paid)"
anybody know if this means it's lifetime or 3 year service?

Where does it say this? Next to "Service" under System information?

Well, in St. Louis, the Circuit City's are out of stock online, and instore. Each store seemed to have one or two on 'on-line order hold'. I did Special Order one, though, so we'll see what happens. Also, Best Buy has these at $149 too, but all the area stores were out of stock (Carbondale Illinois showed 8 of them), and the 5080's all showed the $12.95 orange subscription sticker (and a much higher price). Just sharing my afternoon with those in the area, and keeping my fingers crossed.
Apparently, if you purchased it from Circuit City and it has a red sticker, activation is not included with the ReplayTV device. On the other hand, if your ReplayTV box has a green sticker on it, you're "golden".Originally posted by: Mawashi
So what's the difference between "red" and "green" sticker? Is this deal still alive?
