Think I am CPU limited?

I flipped on HQ, 4xAA, 16xAF and my 3dMark05 "dropped" 1000 pts to 8200 Clocked @ 700/1600 for that run...

(yes, I enabled that stuff in 3dMark and the drivers to make sure it took... shimmering was very much reduced...)

How are you fairing, n7?

Before overclocking, and at every step, use this program to stress the graphics card and make sure that it is stable. Raise the clocks in small steps.

http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/rthdribl/

Monitor the GPU temperature while running this.

By the way, does this card show an ambient temperature as well? Or like 7900GT, just the GPU?

That is a great app! I love that program. Looks really pretty.

So the preliminary results show that the x1900xt 256 is better then the 7900gto except for the 7900gto has

1) 512 mem
2) louder fan
3) more heat
4) $10 more is cost

Correct? or did I miss something?

More heat? Louder fan? Is that true?

I doubt it. I can't hear it really over the other fans, so it can't be much worse than my old AC...

Also, it seems that the temps level off @ ~70C.

I am very happy with my purchase so far...

Yes, idle high but my case is warm, around ~48-50C... can't really hear it either

*it was level at 70C after scanning for artifacts for over half an hour in ATI Tool.

whoops, sorry. i wrote it down backwards. Nice Catch. It's cocktail hour here you know

so, is the 7900 gto worth it or go to the x1900xt 256?

It seems if you need the 512mem go with the 7900gto.

If you need a faster card go with x1900xt.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't

Nice results n7. Looks like a killer deal for that card and good oc results too.

Both are great cards. Just remember that the X1900XT's oc too. My first X1900XT hit ~710/825 on air, my 2nd X1900XT hit ~690/820 at stock voltages on air, and my Crossfire card hit ~675/835 on stock voltages. With a little voltage bump they should hit 700-720/825-850 on air.

9200 in 3dMark05 for me @ 685/1600, that C2D is pretty awesome.

I was hoping to see some better scores from the 7900GTO and even n7's rig with DDR2 ram. My 9700GT 3DMark05 score is 9745 and 3DMark06 is (5180) at (590/1740) on air cooling without any vmod and using an AMD64 3800 X2...

Shens

My rig is the same as yours with the 7900GTX and a 4200x2

The likely difference is quality levels. Use HQ and get back to us

*The xtremeG drivers aren't known for their benchmarking abilities, either

And I thought I was the only one drinking

I think I am going to switch my newegg order back to the x1900xt. I will get the 512 ram when I upgrade to a dx10 card.

I saw $249.99 plus $6.13 shipping
Still $3 cheaper than ZZF, though.
Did you check the reviews over the NE's site? Half of those do not even have the card...LOL

"Well, heres a pic of my 3dmark and the pic of the clocks from coolbits."

Buzzsaw13..Looks like your mark is severely cpu limited as compared to n7's score.
n7...Nice score, largely thanks to c2d core.
