Well, it seems my core starts crapping out around 715+
Memory gets to about <785 before it starts acting up.

I can get it to about 723/799 by fiddling with lower core + higher RAM or vice versa, & repeated "Test" button hits, but i realize i've pretty much hit the max.

So my results confirm what the other thread here & the thread @ XS state:
The 7900 GTOs are basically 7900 GTXs that couldn't run RAM @ 1600.

Binning @ its finest

Not that i'm unhappy based on the price i paid though

Exactly. 99% of the performance for 60% of the price.

Well, it seems my GTO can hit 800mhz on the ram, but doesn't seem to want to go anything above that

That's because it's a sticker that covers the "GTX" on the box.

Yeah same.

I hit a brick wall @ 800.

I don't think i'm gonna keep mine, even after all this.

I am debating between my X1900XT & 7900 GTO right now...it's hard

Nice thread N7 Good updates

Looks like Pappy's right. X1900Xt256 is the way to fly dispite GTX lowing it's price by $150 inside GTO.. Should be worth $210 based on what I'm seeing.

I am pretty frustrated right now.

I really like the card. Alot.

But as i have made another thread about, the screen tearing & performance drop from running my secondary display in portrait mode is incredibly disappointing.

I have found a bunch of other threads elsewhere with people having the same problem, & there appears to be no fix.

Basically nVidia is making high end video cards with no hardware acceleration for portrait mode.
So the software does it, but it's poor performance because it's not hardware accelerated.

I can't believe it...:frown:

Maybe... I am more than happy with the nicer cooler and lower power draw though, along with the ability to dump CCC and use nvidia drivers though. It seems like a good trade off for me.

I haven't tried anything above 800 mhz on the ram, I am considering the GTX bios flash to see if that helps.

At least there don't seem to be the issues that people had with those 6800U's... (yet, anyway, those 6800U's seemed to have been pretty fickle as I remember it...)

I would agree with you while comparing the 2 512MB cards. The 256MB can bottleneck new games running at high res, AA and AF.

For this, I would go with the GTO instead. As long as it works @stock speeds, it should be ok. O/C is a bonus, not a given.

ATI cards don't overclock much either from stock without modding.

I had a 7900GTX until August, could clock it to 700/900. Used like this for 5 months, no issues ever.

There is one thing to know, I could clock the GPU or RAM higher individually but not together.

700 for the GPU is already a good clock. 750 for the RAM is not bad either, for the price you paid.

I'm waiting for the MSI flavour, they went on backorder but should be available next week.
Still thinking if I should cancel the order and wait for the GTX price drop.....

Why don't you read some posts and determine if they are going to be suitable for you... I swear, some people...

Here is a link I posted in another thread. It's in French but you can read the graphs...Even when AA and res is turned up, the X1900XT 256 still beats the GTO in most games.

Not to pee in your pool guys, but be careful on overclocking that card, particularly the memory. Check out this thread to see what I mean -- looks like some cards are just dying after users overclock the memory to GTX levels.

Let me work out the numbers
All settings in 16x12 4xAA 16xAF HQ

Quake 4
7900GTO - 107.7
X1900XT 256 - 91.3

F.E.A.R
7900GTO - 41
X1900XT 256 - 47

HL2 (4xAA + HDR)
7900GTO - 57.2
X1900XT 256 - 53.1

Far Cry (4xAA)
7900GTO - 57.1
X1900XT 256 - 65.2

Far Cry (HDR)
7900GTO - 53.6
X1900XT 256 - 56.4

TR legend
7900GTO - 69.9
X1900XT 256 - 62.4

TR legend (Next Gen)
7900GTO - 34
X1900XT 256 - 29.5

TR legend (Next Gen + 4xAA)
7900GTO - 25.5
X1900XT 256 - 23.2

SC:CT
7900GTO - 62.7
X1900XT 256 - 71.9

SC:CT (HDR)
7900GTO - 67.7
X1900XT 256 - 71.3

AOE III
7900GTO - 63.9
X1900XT 256 - 63

AOE III (HDR)
7900GTO - 57.1
X1900XT 256 - 56.8

Oblivion
7900GTO - 32.2
X1900XT 256 - 41.1

Oblivion (HDR)
7900GTO - 36.4
X1900XT 256 - 40.2

Pacific Fighters
7900GTO - 31.5
X1900XT 256 - 27.4

Coline Mcrae05
7900GTO - 67.9
X1900XT 256 - 70

NFSW
7900GTO - 52.2
X1900XT 256 - 49.1

NFSW (HDR)
7900GTO - 57.7
X1900XT 256 - 57.2

NFSW (HDR + AA)
7900GTO - 49.9
X1900XT 256 - 46.5

Over performance with 4x AA
7900GTO - 69.2
X1900XT 256 - 70.9

Over performance with HDR
7900GTO - 43
X1900XT 256 - 43.4

So pretty much according to that review, its a toss up between 7900GTO and the X1900XT 256.

The 7900GTX is much faster than both cards. (Thanks to its higher clocked memory speed for more bandwitdh)

Actually yeah looking at ALL the games (sorry I only skimmed through ) it does look like it is a toss up. The margin is about 5fps for most of the games.

The best buy then I suppose would have to be based on the factors other than purely performance.

1.2 should hit 800Mhz. And watercooled did you see those temps? 36C and still can't do better? Yeah defective. I hope it last more than three weeks (the time frame before these cards spelled disater in the spring for EVGA)

1.2 should hit 800mhz but with what voltage? Are we sure the GTO and GTX's are feeding the same voltage to the ram?? My money says no.
