Here's a few benches.

All benches done with:
Asus P5B Deluxe
Core 2 Duo E6400 @ 8x425 (3.4 GHz)
Team Group DDR2 @ 531.25 (DDR2-1063 5-5-5-10)

ATi Radeon X1900XT 512 MB @ stock (Catalyst 6.9 defaults)
or eVGA 7900 GTO 512 MB @ stock (Forceware 91.47 defaults except HQ mode instead of Q mode)

3Dmark05
7900GTO - 10474
7900GTO @ 705/799 - 11802
X1900XT - 12358

3DMark06
7900GTO - 6101
7900GTO @ 705/799 - 6700
X1900XT - 6280

FEAR benched @ everything maxed; 4x AA - 16x AF; 1600x1200
7900GTO - Min - 21; Average - 38; Max - 81
7900GTO @ 705/799 - Min - 24; Average - 43; Max - 94
X1900XT - Min - 26; Average - 50; Max - 119

I don't think 705/799 is stable though, as i saw some funny colors at the end of the 3DMark06 testing for a few seconds.

Excellent, now start overclocking that memory

Really, fantastic card for the price. I came very close to buying one.

I did buy one. Come on man, you know you wanted one to go along with that forthcoming Core 2 Solo

I wish more games had easy to use benchmarks like FEAR.

I am runnning some [mostly synthetic] benches on my X1900XT before i rip her out & put in the 7900.

I suspect the new 7900 GTO will lose in 3DMark05, win/tie in 06, & lose in FEAR.

Considering the only two games i really play much are UT2k4 & Flat Out 2, i don't think i'm gonna see much difference

i wish i would have waited a little longer for the 7900gto instead of getting a 7950gt

but then again, i also did get three free games (hitman blood money, HL2: episode, and Dark Messiah Might and Magic) and now i have $300 put towards the G80 (step up) instead of $250

You replaced an X1900XT w/ an Accelero X2 with this 7900GTO? LOL!

You do realize you did a downgrade...right? (And I'm assuming you have a 256MB model. If it is a 512, it is even worse.)

512 MB model. Read below.

Likely a bit less on average.

Why?

My card seems to dislike dual displays.
Has flickering issues during bios/bootup about 50% of the time when both monitors are on.
Previously had flickering issues in Windows, but with newer drivers, it seems okay.
These issues are not uncommon with X1900s, so RMAing might very well get me one with the same problems.

CCC is a RAM whore, & i could not use ATT instead even if i wanted, as it doesn't seem to have an option for using a secondary display in portrait mode.
I also hate ATT anyway.

Card doesn't OC at all w/o locking up or artifacting, regardless of app/voltage used (Overdrive, ATi Tool, ATT, X1900 Overclocker or whatever it's called) which ruins my fun.

Also, i simply cannot get the X1900XT to work with a secondary card to power my third & fourth displays.
Not with PCI 7000, PCI-e 6600GT, or PCI-e X1300 Pro regardless of bios settings, versions, drivers, lack of drivers, etc.

Simply put, it's been a f*ck of a lot of hassle.
Partially because i expect a lot more from it that a normal user, so most of my complaints aren't valid for most people.
But for myself, they are valid.

And since i can get a 7900 GTO for cheap, i might as well see if it works a bit better for me.

That's why.

Fair enough. Some of us prefer the faster card. What do they say, different strokes for different folks?

Okay i have 7900 GTO installed now.

So far, no good.

I am experiencing annoying tearing just in Windows use like scrolling thru the forums here.

What settings do you guys recommend to get rid of tearing?

Vsync doesn't seem to do anything in general Windows.

Also, what's good for OCing this thing.

Last time i used an nVidia card it was coolbits.

What about now?

faaaaaantastic.

The 7900GTO label on the front looks like a MS Paint bad chop-job.

I'm running 3DMock right now.
As soon as that's done, i take a screenie of them & post them here.

But i left everything at defaults expect for the texture quality one, which is changed from the default Q to HQ, since we all know nVidia cheats on benches that way...

BTW, the tearing only happens on the secondary display which is in portait mode.
My 7000 Pro old PCI card had the same issue when running my secondary in portrait, but i assumed that was because it was old.
My X1900XT ran it like that perfectly well.
But now my new GTO is tearing like my old 7000 did
