Just be careful. I'm sure they lowered the voltage for a reason. I don't think I'm going to flash mine just to make sure I avoid trouble.

LMK what yours reads Zebo

Flash is Irreversable if card fails.... Don't you think there is a reason these cards are only running 1.85-1.9?

Edit haha we're worried the same way.

Anyway I'm going resistor

I bet they tested the hell out of these cards with lower voltage and lower memory clocks and finally found the stable spot where the samsung ram could handle it. Slap a GTO sticker on it and you've got a good product again.

Bingo.

Just remember that the quoted numbers are for the 256MB version, in which case the cards perform very closely. N7 has the 512MB version which puts some serious hurt on the 790GTO according to the same benchmarks (charts show XTX which would only be a tad faster than N7's XT).

Thats a pretty good bet. This is what worries me about suggesting people to flash. That they will fail shortly like the spring cards with Samsung memory, then the cards are un_RMAable due to modded bios. $250+shipping thrown out the window. (of course should'nt be RMA clocked cards at all)

I think. like you suggest, they should be fine @ defaut mem after extensive testing they must have done. But I'm going to try 2.4.

Actually, bios flashing is cool with EVGA. They explicitly say anything short of you doing physical damage to the card or removing a part of it is under warranty.

So have at it! I haven't gotten into the habit of flashing the bios. If anything I would just want to flash it so my current clocks were the defaults. I hate having to OC everytime I change drivers.

I know this was probably discussed back when the issues with the 7900GTX came up, but I can't find the thread. So - it looks like Samsung sold eVGA some pretty crappy chips. What sort of actions do you take if you're a company like eVGA? (Besides switching memory manufacturers to Infineon, of course.) Does anyone have any idea what sort of contract gets signed between two companies like this? How does the law work in situations like this, esp, given that you you mave laws from different countries in play?

Personally, I'm imagining eVGA ninjas unleashing 80s-martial-arts-movie-style fury inside Samsung headquarters, removing the cerebellums of board members and throwing shuriken like Santana throwing strikes.

I just received my eVGA 7900 GTO from mWave.

Using coolbits, I have been running it overcloked at 697 MHz core and (2)*767 MHz memory. The card runs well and is relatively quiet.
It definitely stays cool (48 C) even under load. I am quite happy so far. I am running it on a Seasonic 370W power supply with no issues.

Looks like the only site review is partial to the 7900 GTO...
"Une carte vient cependant détrôner toutes les autres, la GeForce 7900 GTO. Proposée à un prix défiant toute concurrence, elle est la carte actuelle la plus intéressante..."

"A card has just arrived however that's dethroned all others, the Geforce 7900 GTO. Sold at a price beating all competition, it's currently the most enticing card..." It goes on to talk about it's performance, cooling, and sonore advantages.

Can't wait til my pair arrives and start OC'ing... and then step up to two G80's in a couple months. I just ordered an OCZ GameXtreme 700W, but am scared it won't be nearly enough for dual G80's.

btw, I really think a bios flash to GTX would be more trouble than it's worth. Can't you just mod the GTO bios to have 800ghz mem? I know the voltage wouldn't be gtx, but it would be a more permanent solution than using Riva/CoolB

I will be doing a bios flash when I get home from school today. Looks like I have to dig up my USB floppy drive buried in all my crap.

I wonder if the better price of the 7900GTO they are talking about is for France/Europe. The X1900XT, which seems to be even or maybe slightly ahead in their review, is less money in the U.S. at this point (only slightly).

Bah, just hooked them up and tested. Can only push the RAM to 1480 (less then my old GT!) and core to 690. 8300 in 3DMark06. Still, not disappoint in the $ I paid for em'. Also, I think I'm right at the cusp of a CPU bottleneck.

I can't believe how quiet they are though. I actually had to put a flashlight to the fans to check they were running.

Would it be useful to start a thread posting from where everyone got their 7900GTO, if the box has been relabeled or not, and the OC you're getting?

That is what drove my purchase

And yes, you are far over the cusp of a CPU bottleneck with 2 of those beasts. I am bottlenecked by one with a 4200+ x2, which offers basically the same performance...

Anyone done the bios flash to GTX yet?
Results?

Now that we know that they are putting less vdimm into these, i suspect a GTX bios (more vdimm) would allow for much higher RAM OCs, which seems to be the main limiting factor in OCing presently.

The only issue is what will happen to stability/reliability if more vdimm is applied considering the track record of the chips these GTO's are using...

Did u guys use ati tool to test artifacts? Is there something similar for nvdia? What other software is there?

GTO flashes to GTX thread

yes you can use ATItool to test out the artifacts. Otherwise I do not know anything specifically written for Nvidia card(s).
3dmark06 would too be a good tool for testing out the o/c'ed card, IMO.

My GTO has been running rock solid at 690/1600 since the 2nd day it'd arrived.

Run it for half an hour. It will beep if it finds artifacts.

I just finished an upgrade with two of these bad boys. Wasn't going to pay $200+ for a 590SLI board, so I settled for the Asus 570SLI Intel board for now. It's limiting my cpu oc, but still very nice...

C2D E6400 @ 2.5
2GB Ballistix PC800 @ 840 4-4-4-12
7900 GTO sli @ 700/1600
Xtreme G 92.91 drivers (love the new Nvidia interface)
