I have not observed any sparkles, but I just swapped the Soyo with my old LCD, and used my old DVI cable. The same DVI cable has gone though at least 3 monitor upgrades now.

I had the red sparkles early on with the Soyo (powering off and on would always fix it), but I actually haven't seen any sparkles in a month. I made two changes since the sparkles: switched DVI cables and switched (downgraded, don't ask) from an X1950XT to a 7600GT. Not sure which was the key, but the Soyo has been flawless since.

Picked it up yesterday for work. (Monitors over 19" need to be brought in yourself.)

Loving it.

No need to worry about ghosting or taring in games at work Or HDCP. It's a perfect monitor for work...

I think that's common with the x1900/x1950 cards. A lot of them overheat and get artifacts. You can replace the cooler with a 3rd party product or reapply better thermal paste (just remember to use something like AS MX series or similar non-metallic thermal paste on it. Metallic paste is conductive and will fry your GPU. Doing either will void your warranty, but if it's already out of warranty, may be worthwhile.

I -didn't- buy it despite two visits to local OM's: neither had any input signals for it, so I couldn't see its performance/quality. Please tell me horror stories about it! As it is, I think I missed a great buy: now even I don't respect me!

Well, it did sparkle on me once. Turned it off and back on, and it was fine after that. It's been great otherwise. Still, that is a little weird. Oh well, I got a 1 yr warranty on it to be safe.

Haha well don't be sad. At this rate, it'll probably go back on sale in a couple of weeks again.

Same at the shop I bought mine.

Basicly for work ONLY, it's great. Cheep with lots of space and speakers for office application feedback sounds.

Everything else ... just ok

Games ok - though i prefer a nice 1680x1050 as a good performace / quality balance for gaming. 1920x1200 can be a little hard on things.

HD-DVD/Blu-Ray NO as it has no HDCP

Console gaming is also a problem as the only inputs are DVI and VGA.

I've owned the display going on 2 mos now. Had absolutely no problems whatsoever. It's fine for games, you shoould be OK at 1920x1200 as long as you have a mid-range to latest setup (I have a core 2 6600, x1800XT 512mb setup but plan on upgrading).

As for HD-DVD/Blu-Ray, HDCP is irrelevant, you can watch to your heart's delight, all you need is AnyDVD HD..

Not showing online, but it's on sale again in the flyer. But it's also at $319.99 this time. Looks like they're trying to squeeze a few more bucks out this round.

How is the picture quality and color accuracy if using this monitor for photoshop and video editing?

I ran out and picked up one of these guys, after going through 4 of the 22" Sceptre's. The Soyo is a beautiful thing, rich accurate colors and NO dead or locked pixels(unlike all the Sceptres). I would judge it to look at least as good as my 24" Dell - the Soyo is a steal at $299.

My brother picked one of those up and everything looks good so far. I would be careful with an LCD monitor for $299 period since you can get better known brands for about $100 bucks more.

Thats the thing- the you have to pay more than $100 for the better known brands that don't have TN panels in them

Picked one of these bad boys up. No dead pixels, flickering pixels or lines across the screen. I love it. The display is clear and crisp and it's HUGE. Compared to my 22" Acer, there's no comparison. Great deal.

The next nearest is $100 more and that's the Westinghouse, which looks really good, but the Soyo is supposed to blow it out of the water in terms of color quality.

So pros and con's

Soyo
pros:
$100 cheaper
Better and more correct color

cons:
bad input switching
high defect rate out of box
less reliable warranty coverage

Westinghouse:
Pros:
Better (still terrible) user interface
Lower defect rate
Better base warranty from manufacturer
tons of inputs and outputs

cons:
inconsistent color correctness
$100 more

Both kick TN panels' butts

Awesome awesome!
B&M... no rebate. Just a friggin steal. Gorgeous picture, friggin huge. No dead pixels, no problems. Don't play much games but Unreal Tournament is friggin crazy. If you have $300 you will not regret this.

I picked one of these up in the same deal a couple of months back and I've been quite happy with it. The colors are great and it works very well in World in Conflict and UT3. I do need to run Vsync/Triple Buffering to avoid major tearing in LOTRO but that isn't a major drawback for me.

If you reread his reply you will see that he is saying you have to pay more than $100 more in order to get an lcd that doesn't have a TN panel
