It's probably because your video card or system isn't that able to render in 1900x1220.

I tried several PCs including a Dell 8400 3.2G with a BFG 7800GT OC that runs a Dell 2001FP LCD. I googled 7800GT and found where people were running 1920x1200 ok on a 24" LCD so mine should be able to handle it. It also comes and goes which leads me to believe some internal electronics are bad. I plan to return it today but I don't think they have anymore in stock so I might have to get a refund and wait for the next 24" LCD deal.

Lanyap, did you try and sync at lower resolutions (e.g. 1440x900) and see if that worked? I've seen those patterns before and they were invariably from video card/driver problems.

I've had my monitor from the first day of the initial $299 sale and had absolutely no problems.

Great display. I've also owned it since over a week ago Fri, no problems. Only thing is, since it's lacking HDCP don't expect to use with PS3, HD-DVD/Blu-Ray player, etc. Otherwise it's excellent as a main display for your PC.

shot in the dark but... is the vga/dvi cable good?

My monitor arrived today, along with my brand-new ATI Radeon 9600 Pro (256MB) AGP video card.

After ~15 minutes of using the monitor, I had a problem with lots of pixels blinking/twinkling. I saw this problem on different areas of the screen, usually on gray or black backgrounds. The pixels turned red and were twinkling (like stars in the sky) or flickering.

I turned off the monitor and did some other stuff for about an hour (with the PC on). I am no longer seeing the problem, but if it comes back I am definitely exchanging the monitor.

Any idea what causes this problem? I am using a brand new video card, latest drivers, new DVI cable and new monitor.

Thanks to all who offered suggestions for my problem. I returned it today and they had another one in stock so they swapped it out. Got the new one hooked up this afternoon and it's been running ok so far. My first one must have been defective.

Yep, the problem I had looks just like the images that you posted. However,the problem went away on its own during the few hours that I used the monitor. I am going to look for this again tonight.

Got mine yesterday, opened it up, turned it on, ran a dead pixel test.....and it runs great.
No problems, viewing angles are great and it runs awesome. This is such an awesome deal for a 24" monitor.

I order mine, but still waiting on it. It seems to have high rate of return when I talked to the guy in the store. My guess was the great price was to move out inventory. But know i'm think they jsut have high defect rate and really want to be done with these things. One good thing is that if its working it stays working. So check it out completely when you first get it. If not get a replacement fast.

The problem with flickering pixels on gray/black backgrounds happened again today. The monitor is also making an annoying buzzing sound from the rear of the monitor. I just got off the phone with OfficeMax to arrange for a replacement to be shipped.

gedman, PowerRanger, what you two are describing sounds like more of a case of the sparklies. I had it on my Soyo in photos and videos, as a start try these...turn down your Hardware Acceleration settings, aim for compatability as opposed to highest performance in your settings, also try turning off "Enable write combining". I forget which solved it for me but I tinkered with the Display Properties in XP and solved it that way. I don't believe it is the monitor or the cables, you may get lucky with an exchange but just because it doesn't show up on the new one, doesn't mean it won't in the future. It will under just the right combination with drivers/settings/graphics adapter. FYI, I am using the DVI cable.

The annoying buzzing sound is probably from the volume settings, turn down the volume in the monitor control panel all the way down to 0.

This monitor is so good for the money.

I have a Dell 2405 as well, paid about $700 for it 2 years ago, and sadly for me I think this Soyo has better image quality. Best monitor deal of the year, imo.

same thing here. i got the monitor this morning... brought it home during lunch and hooked it up to my powerbook. i put up some hoochie wallpaper with a black background and noticed the green artifacts. i didnt have much time to putz around with it, so i turned off the soyo and went back to work. when i got home in the evening, i went to investigate some more, but when i turned the soyo back on... no more artifacts. hmm.... strange....


edit - my powerbook is using a radeon9700 chipset... with either 64 or 128mb of memory (need to check when i get home).

So far mine seems to only want to display the artifacts after it comes out of sleep mode and there is roughly a 1/3 chance of it happening.
Pulling the power cable and not simply turning it off fixes it every time so I know it's not an issue with cable/software.

I'll probably try and exchange mine today or tomorrow

I have an Acer 19" WS that occasionally a pixel will get stuck on (started > 30days after I bought it). Seems to be the same location and if I tap the screen in that spot (lightly) it will go back off. If there's only a few on your screen you can try gently pressing the screen around the pixel and it may fix itself. The other issue with the acer is the speakers will occasionally buzz, but seems to fix itself.

Do monitors have a burning time. I know some Dells a while beack was crapping up out of the box but if you let it run for a a few days all the problems left. I'm going to give mine a full week of testing before I send it back. Mostly becauseIi'm lazy and cheap and will not file like repacking it or paying to ship it back.

notice that when i play Company of Heroes and exit out to WinXP, 2 out of the 3 times so far there have been these sparkling green/red/blue artifacts on my screen. Once i do a power on and off it goes away. Other than that, there have been no artifacts. Tried playing a movie overnight the whole night and no artifacts. just seems to be games which clear out once i power down. does this mean there are problems that will get worse over time?

I'm seeing the green sparkles on my second monitor which was a replacement for my first defective monitor. Basic stuff like using my browser and even playing a few games like MOH Airborne demo are ok but when I tried to watch a DVD movie last night I saw the green sparkles in most of the scenes but not all. When I played the same DVD movie this morning as a test there were no sparkles. I also found a dead pixel in the bottom right corner of the screen. Since this is my second attempt with this monitor I'm going to return it for a refund.

About 8 hours but this was the first time I tried a DVD movie and when they really showed up.

Are you sure that's due to the monitor? Have you tried another monitor? That really looks like a video codec problem to me since I had something that looked exactly the same just a week ago. Reinstalling NVIDIA drivers fixed it for me.

Mine (due to codec issues) were also variable. They seemed to only occur on certain frames. Just FYI.
