I'd believe it. I went through two August 2007 models this week before getting my money back. (Both had the terrible smell problem - you could smell it without turning the monitor on.)

I may wait a little while to see if later models fixed that problem.

Both of mine had the "smell" and it went away after a few days. One of them smelled like pot, actually. I'd guess it's just something left over from the manufacturing phase that's "cooking off" the surfaces.

Mine doesn't smell at all, does that mean I'm okay? I've been using it for a couple day now. In fact, I can't find a single thing wrong with it. No dead pixels, lines, smell, buzzing, bleeding - nothing.

Soyo is definately having some QC problems. The July 2007 models had the sparklies and dead pixel lines and now the next build is having odor problems. I hope they get their act together because I plan to buy it for $250 on BF.

I have both a july and an august model because i had to buy 2nd one to use a OM coupon i found. I will probably return one of them soon.
I got the july model a week ago and i just set up the august model today. both of them seem to have no dead pixels and no sparklies. the july model has the odor problem but only if i stick my nose 1" away from the monitor. the august one has a little bit of odor too but i've only been running it for a day. both of the model give off A LOT of heat but i haven't figured out if that'll have a bad effect on the monitor itself.
the big difference that i noticed is that the july model is a lot brighter than the august model. the july model has brightness at 37 while in order to get the same brightness, the aug model has to be set to 75 or so. I plan on returning one of them so does anyone else know any other differences between the two?

Mine came in on the 9th (my birthday!) Couldn't be happier with it. Within the first hour or so, though, I really thought I was going to have to return it or resell it or something ... because I was experiencing some kind of vertigo. Started to get a headache, etc. Moved it back another foot or so and it's fine now

Does OM do price protection? Like when it's $249 can those of us who bought recently try and cop a price match?

Your comment reminded me I should see how movies look on mine. While mine doesn't have any banding, movies look like total ass. I don't really know how to describe it, but if the camera is not moving you can see objects constantly shifting. Don't know whats up with that.

After seeing the last couple of comments, I had to put in a DVD and check out mine. It looks fine to me on the DVD's that I tried. I am using the player built into Vista home premium on a 8800GTS 640MB. It appears about the same as my Dell 24 incher. The Soyo has been flawless for the past 3 weeks, to make it even better I went back to Officemax on black Friday and they adjusted the price down to $249

Picked one up on BF. After a week I have a very thin black horizontal line a third of the way from the top. Not too noticeable. But I bought the one-year warranty just for this reason.

The more interesting thing which I can't blame on the monitor is that if I cold boot, after the Windows screen finishes, I get a no signal message and that's it. I have to do a Safe boot than a restart to get the signal to the monitor. My previous monitor was analog, which didn't have this glitch.
