I picked up that deal when it was around last time. The thermal paste isn't preapplied to the heatsink, I dunno if it normally is but they give you some of it in a tube and it was kinda tricky to get on; not as smooth as AS. Good heatsink though, totally worth $17.

I picked one up from the last deal as well Mine did have the preapplied MX-1 on it. Guess open box really means suprise-in-a-box. I was gonna hold out for a cheap AMD X2 CPU and replace my 3200+. Now the X23800 is 99.00 at TD but I'm torn between skipping that and going for C2D

I fell to temptation and picked up the PNY 2gig DDR2 set for 100.00, but have no system to put it in. So now I'm in no man's land and confused

Recent Reviews for retail version at the Egg aren't that good. Several problems with retention clip.

Great cooler. Clip may be a little finicky but it's far from impossible to use it right. On the upswing, this thing can be rotated 90 degrees thanks to the clip. Cools VERY well with low noise.

People are probably installing it wrong. I had an issue initially with the clip not going on because it was too tight. Turned out that there are these "bumps" on the base that goes into "holes" on the clip, to properly position it. If you don't have it lined up, the bumps don't go into the holes so the clip becomes too tight to clip on.

So remember guys and gals, the thing sticking out goes in the hole.

Mine arrived with the metal bracket cracked!!! What kind of quality control is Newegg using these days? Thankfully the Newegg rep was kind enough to credit me back my purchase price and let me keep the Freezer 64 Pro. So really no loss in the end.

I got this about 6 months ago when it was really cheap for my 3000+ and was great and really quiet too. Just remember that this HSF is HUGE!!!!!!!
