As for the memory, I think it depends on the mobo. If you look around in the cpu forums, some are having problem with very tight timings. You have to loosen the memory timing a bit.

Ah sweet, snagging the case now. All that is left is the memory (going on an eVGA 680i). If I were to buy now it would be up to these or the crucial ballistix.

can anybody explain why these fancy memory modules are slower and more expensive than the xms2-6400C4 (which are 4-4-4-12 as opposed to 5-5-5-12)?

this is a very very very good ram set in tems of overclocking... so it's not always about the CAS timings. as for the ballistix, i would research which ram is ideal for your motherboard, as YMMV with each combination of ram+mobo.
