But still, 1/22 2013 was and is a very important day for the future of Israel. As Israel, with a parliamentary stye government held new elections today.

And somewhat surprise surprise, Netanyuhu, who was widely been expected to emerge even stronger in the new elections, saw his own political party lose 11 of the Knesset 42 seats he held seats he had before.

http://news.yahoo.com/israel-set-elect-netanyahu-shift-further-010055035.html

As the various Israeli center left parties made specular gains, and came very very close to claiming the majority of Knesset seats. As Netanyuhu, as the center right candidate at best, is going to be forced further rightward to retain the dubious support of bat shit crazy far right lunatic Israeli settler parties and far right Israeli religious parties who have little broad support among Israeli voters who regard them as holier than thou parasites.

Beyond that its hard to make predictions, but its certainly a new dynamic in Israeli politics.

What I'm not surprised at is that Israel has yet to attack Iran despite various hawks over the past few years claiming certain near-future dates.

Hopefully Netanyahu will do everything and anything he needs to do to insure the future existence of Israel.

Support for Israel is dwindling because the world is sick of their bullshit. Their own party is getting sick of their bullshit too. Neytheyahoo will always win because who else is there? Its all a joke.

After all the pro and anti Israeli fan clubbers on this forum revert to what they do best, namely tossing insults at each other. As I ask why we can't about the future instead?

Because Lapid, a ex Israeli Television news anchorman, now turned first time politician came away from from the 1/22/2013 Israeli election with the second largest political party in the Israeli Knesset. At the same time Likud, the party of Netanyuhu lost 11 of its former 42 seats. And worse yet for Netanyuhu, the far Israeli right who used to prop up the Netanyuhu coalition got decimated too.

So it seems to me, the next two questions we should ask, is who will emerge from yesterday's Israeli election and be able to form the next ruling coalition in the Israeli Knesset? As the next question becomes who the heck is Lapid, and what are his policies?

In terms of question one, we had to wait until today to hear from his is own mouth, as Lapid declined to lead any initial Knesset fight to unseat Netanyuhu. In terms of question two, I too know little about Lapid's set of core political beliefs.

So I somewhat submit this link that sheds some light, and the rest of the blanks may filled in only by Lapid's future actions.

You cannot somewhat submit something. You either submit it, or, you don't. This is what I was talking about earlier. You've said you're an American in another thread, yet you talk (or at least write here)...very very strangely for an American.

Iran is moderate compared to most muslim countries, despite their rhetoric. Egypt, Libya, Algeria and all the other muslim states blessed by their "recent democratic" revolutions are going to cause more terrorism than Iran by far, not to mention misery for their own people since their economies are falling apart. The Israel~Iran topic is popular but Iran could be much worse, and Israel knows it.

Egypt is going to be the real problem for Israel as time goes on now but you wont hear much of it due to positive US relations with Egypt - just like Saudi Arabia is rarely in the news despite financing terror groups like its going out of style. With Egypt you have a Islamic government in charge now, they share a direct border with Israel. They are in bed with the Palestinians and they have a fanatical population to boot. Syria, if it falls to the so-called "rebels" will be another massive problem for Israel, Assad just like ahminijad is a talking head...hes better than the alternative that Egypt and Libya have been "blessed" with.

As maybe chucky2 gets to the heart of this thread, by maybe asking what is an American, what is a German, what is a Japanese, what is an Israeli. and what is an Arab? As if its something immutably hard wired into their genetic national culture and never never never subject to change?

When Human history teaches exactly the opposite lesson. That change is always inevitable. Pardon me, chucky2, when I did not join the set of American cheer leaders during the Vietnam war. Nor did I back the phony baloney reasoning behind the our war in Afghanistan, or the GWB phony sale man's reasons to invade Iraq in 2003. Maybe I was in a huge American minority at the time, and even more importantly I could have been proven wrong, if American leaders had been even semi-competent in understanding winning the peace involves helping make the peoples of an occupied nation lives better. As instead the USA has been recently been stuck on stupid, by thinking we can set up a unpopular puppet government. Nor in the broader sweep of human history, as might is right never worked long for any government. Or we can also talk about Russia, Germany, and Japan, post WW1. Who saw their chances to advance as nations. As Germany and Japan did it first. And after a decade or so Might makes right, the governments of Germany and Japan were wildly popular with their own people. But when the tide of war shifted, in only the last 2 years of a decade or better of unbroken successes, it was too late for either all the national cheer leading in the world, when they were on the wrong side of history. Or we could talk about the Soviet Union, our ally in WW2, becoming the post WW2 axis of evil during the next 45 years cold war. Ultimately won by not firing a shot, because a capitalist economy proved superior to a communistic economy, despite all the communistic cheer leading to the contrary. As I sadly observe, the America I love is also on the wrong side of history and our economy is going down the toilet as a result of being on the wrong side of history. As the clear lesson of history is that the nation that refuses to compromise and demands it all, ends up totally losing in the end. As smarter nations take advantages of changes.

Normally Israel would barely hit the US radar screen as the most hated nation in a random region. But when Israel happens to be located in the mid-east, the most important oil artery in the world, the degree of difficulty and US stupidity rises exponentially. Not only for the USA but for Israel too. And when any possibly future for an Israeli long term future well may well involve on Israel supporting a two State solution. Otherwise any long term Israeli future looks rather grim. Especially when the recent UN general assembly vote totally isolated both Israel and the USA as clearly on the wrong side of history.

But chucky2, it ain't over until the fat lady sings, and I want to envision better a better Israeli government that supports a 2 State solution, than can then transform Israel to a regional neighbor that is an asset rather than a total enemy to its neighbors in the mid-east.

And then you, chucky2, arrogantly asks me to submit a concrete prediction, when I see only a somewhat hopeful Israeli Election result that may or may not advance peace in the mid-east.

As for EK, who sees only failed predictions on my part, when I say the current Israeli strategy as unsustainable. As I can only say to EK, he has to be the biggest fool on this forum to maintain Israel is in a better position than it was before. As the present government of Israel has been hemorrhaging world support at an unprecedented and accelerating rate.

Rest of the world outside ME simply don't care, and ME excluding Israel maybe grew a brain or two realized having a convenient scapegoat is only uh, convenient and doesn't solve their own problems.

Ethnic groups are prone to violent conflicts with each other in clashes of values, so there is a trade-off between respecting diversity and sustaining peace
