We do something a bit... different than Christmas. If you want to see Christmas lights, go to one of the many, very nicely done Christmas displays. If you want to see something else, come to our house.

Was waiting for you to come in and drop the gauntlet. :awe:

And it looks like you are seriously marketing this thing.

lol @ "The same house that brought you ____"
Love it.

You mentioned two years ago that you were "testing a project" with your initial Force Awakens theme. ....I'm guessing this is a package that you will be selling privately or licensing? It's freaking awesome, and I bet you'll make a killing selling these seasonal theme houses.

I’m surprised ANYONE remembered that!

Due to lack of time and severe curveballs pitched to me in life, I haven’t had the time to make our random pieces of software into any kind of marketable package. We use them ourselves behind the scenes, but they are junky prototypes that we know how to coerce into getting some work done. There is a reason why our shows have a different look and feel compared to what you’d see on other houses or at theme parks, and that’s mostly due to the mechanical sympathy we have with our in-house software. We know how it works and it does stuff no other software has, so our results are unique.

As for “making a killing,” I wish! There’s not much of a market for this kind of technology. And really, I’d have to work full time on it for at least a year to produce something worth paying money for. But I have a mortgage and other commitments to worry about. I’m getting married in 2019, too. If you happen to know an angel investor that loves blinking lights to music, let me know!

We have some ideas that will push the limits of what’s possible with light shows. Other places have bigger venues, more lights, and a higher budget, but they don’t come even close to the technical level we hit, so that’s what we strive for. At the end of the day, it’s a hobby! We work at it when we can and whatever we end up with is what we end up with.

But one thing we’re doing differently this year is that we do plan on shooting and putting together a video sooner rather than later. It’ll be released maybe in a week or two!

I'm generally anti-holiday, but I do kind of like Christmas decorations. Keep up the good work.

well whatever you do, at the very least register the protocol package for about 20 bucks with the writer's guild: it's a simple fee, and the least that you need to submit is a scrap of paper with an idea. It sounds useless, and it kind of is...but registers your idea and presents a legal platform. It dates your idea, and allows you to argue from that date. It's good for 10 years, and takes 10 minutes of your time.

But of course patent that if you are serious about no one else having the same protocol. I think that is just as easy, but takes time and is far more expensive.

Do both. Get the patent pending...or just keep it as a hobby. Be happy. I'd just hate to see one of those assholes in a clip-on tie at the Home Depot showing up around TG and trying to sell me this same consulting/install package for $500-1500k and it not be you.

The protocols used are all industry standard stuff. There’s sACN/e1.31 and DMX. Same stuff used at concerts and theme parks. I’ve got nothing to patent.

If Apple can patent the square shape, I'm sure you are clever enough to figure this out.

Finally got our trees up. We try and buy a Christmas ornament when we travel so there are quite a few on them from around the world.

(last one is from Hawaii)

Thought I'd revive this thread since it's almost Christmas. Lowe's already has all of their Christmas decorations out...

The season is Fall and it will still be in the 90's in Atlanta next week. The department stores all have their Fall/Winter clothing out as if someone is going to buy that chit.

Here's my tree topper. I finally gave in and bought an artificial tree (had nothing before this since I've never spent Christmas at my home until now).
