Every month is "Black History" month. Just as every month is "White History" month, or "Asian History" month, or "Hispanic History" month. If we ever set one race over another to create specific rememberance then we cheapen humanity as a whole. To accomplish everything that we have to this point in history requires ALL races of people not just whites, or asians, or blacks... it take us all.
Remember just after 9-11? Remember all the flag waving and pride that welled up in us at that moment in history? I do. I also remember seeing a slogan posted everywhere that specifically defied months that celebrated only black history and celebrated all americans together. The slogan was "United We Stand".
I appreciate all who have contributed to the well being of humanity. Whether you are talking about MLK or JFK or whoever, color didn't make these people great, their heart and vision did. I don't need a specific month to think MLK was a great man... I know he was a great man when my family sits in a restaurant eating dinner next to a family of a different race and neither one notices it.
Acceptance was once the goal and it almost seems like segregation is the goal now. Sad.
