What's done is done. If they want to add black history into school curriculums then fine, but call it American history, not black history. I have no problem studying ethnic groups and whatnot but it's hypocritical to say it's promoting racial equality when you refer to a damn month by color or ethnicity or whatnot. It's not like I need a Jewish History Month to remember the Holocaust. I learned that in world history.

To all the people that externalize their struggles, get the fvck on with your lives, you have no one to blame for the problems in your life but yourself.

If you seriously think that this nation lacks racial awareness then direct your hostility towards your children's teachers and reform public education. I learn a hell of a lot more in school than I do from a holiday.

From reading the threads, I am forced to ask this question: why is it that in a discussion about Black History Month there are those that feel that pride in such a month means that those that accept that pride are racists? Also, why do those of you that feel that there should not be a BHM feel that way? Do you not see the need and rationale behind it?

Before you begin, let me weigh in on arguments that I have heard before:

"BHM only serves to keep us racially divided." - False and inadequate. BHM serves as a reminder to all that there have been major advances and accomplishments made in this country, and that African-Americans have been major contributors to them. Otherwise, nary a word would be made of them. (for proof, look at school books prior to 1980.)

"Why keep bringing up the past? I didn't have anything to do with slavery, lynchings, or civil rights?"- Booker T. Washington once said, "Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed." It is imperative to our survival that we remember the struggles that ALL Americans in this country have faced at various times. If not, we are destined to repeat the past. The older I get, the more shocking the realization that as few as 40 years ago, African-Americans were beaten, hanged, denied schooling, denied entry to certain places, denied healthcare, etc. 40 years ago! Even today, the pall of racism still touches America (as in this story), as in this story(or this one). Besides that, racism runs rampant in corporate America. See Coca Cola, Texaco, Shoney's, Winn Dixie, etc... So as long as this keeps happening, we (all, not just African-Americans) have to be ever vigilant.

Lastly, I am a proud American who just appens to be black, and proud of that as well. As a race we have accomplished so much in the face of adversity. Unfortunately, there are still those who can't see past the color of skin and would still have me as a janitor, street sweeper, or some other job that they view as degrading as opposed to in the boardroom. Unfortunately, the stigma of rap music, gang violence, and drug abuse has tarnished the great works of those that came before me. But, we still prevail... And that is what BHM is to me: an opportunity to show another generation that those before us did so much with so little. An opportunity to show that the Civil Rights movement was about more than just 5 or 6 people.

I have tried to make this post as unoffensive and enlightening as possible, but undoubtedly there will be those that are offended or still don't get it. All I ask is that you expand your mind, if only for a month!

From personal experience, if in a dark room, the most prominent features of a black person would be their eyes and teeth. Because the holes only shows black, I'd have to say it's a black person in the bag. Here are my reasonings:

-If you are white, either with eyes open or closed, the skin aound your eyes won't be much of a contrast and therefore should show a lighter shade.

-You're black, and you're blinking when the photo was taken, that's why there are only black showing inside the bag.

Usually, neglected people are given a special recognition so they can feel better about themselves, and their accomplishment. Take for examples the awards given for a "special" kid that can do a certain "normal" thing, but no normal kid is given an award for doing the exact samething, better. Then the "special" kids got together and thought that they were cool, and you know what happens when there are a lot of them, they start to think that they are "special". Well, that was my take on it...
