Using AT's price search engine, cheapest XT is $499 at eWiz (who cares if it's retail or OEM?). Cheapest GTX is $449. That's a $50 difference.
You always limit your price searching to one store?
1 store selling a "bulk" card does not make the overall price.
If you don't care if it's OEM to save $50, why not save another $50 on top of that and get a full retail card with a lifttime warranty and performs about the same.
I think it is because we will be putting new heatsinks/waterblocks on those badboys anyways so OEM is fine as the warranty goes out the window
There is still only a 50 difference in price between the cards so it looks to me that ATI is back and very competitive in the upper end. (I have a watercooled 7800GTX at 521core and 1414mem before I am accused of being an ATI fanboi  )
The point is that the 7800GTX 512 is basically a false start that Nvidia "fans" should be bemoaning just like the ATI "product delays." Nvidia won this round but isn't going out with a bang.
Newegg will charge more than MSRP for the newest, baddest video cards. The comment has merit that you should check elsewhere. That would include ZZF, Monarch, etc.Originally posted by: Wreckage

Believe it or not, there are other places besides newegg. Try the pricing engine on the front page perhaps.
A lot of those price searches return, refurbs, out of stock and dealers with a low seller rating.
Newegg is a store most people trust with reasonable prices.
I'm sure I could find much higher prices as well.

You're just going to have to accept the fact that people are buying these, and it is the fastest/best single card on the market by FAR Munky.
They were available at TD a couple days ago when Capt. Caveman bought his, they were available again this afternoon. (I followed his link and saw them in stock) They'll likely have more in a few days and they'll sell out too.
They're available at systems assemblers, some B&M, and overseas.
Extremely limited availability does not equal no availability, so you'll just have to keep listening to me say:
"Hey Munky! 512GTX is one sweet card that demolishes all competition, eh?"

I don't know Rollo. With the newest drivers the X1800XT looks to be pretty much on par with Nvidia's beast at max eye-candy. I trust X-bit labs and they have a pretty good review that compares the two.

The same can be said for the 256GTX vs the XT. and hey look the XT actually loses in AOEIII. By the same logic as yours, save your money and get a 256GTX.
