2014 FALL TURKEY:

• Archery/Shotgun : Oct. 1 - Dec. 2 and Dec. 15, 2014 - Jan. 31, 2015
• Shooting Hours: One-half hour before sunrise to sunset.
• Legal Equipment: Shotguns and muzzleloading shotguns using shot sizes 2-9; long, recurve or compound bows and crossbows. Dogs may be used while hunting turkeys during the fall turkey season.
• Limit: Fall turkey permits may be purchased over-the-counter or online, and are valid in Units 1,2,3,5 and 6.

Firearms: shotguns or muzzleloading shotguns using only size 2 shot

through size 9 shot. Range-finding devices and optical scopes or sights
that project no visible light toward the target and do not electronically​

amplify visible or infrared light may be used.

Yes!!! Its fall turkey season!!!

I am hunting myself a 10 - 12 lbs one at the grocery store for $0.88 per pound.

I hope to bag one this morning.

The Farm Manager at the orchard across the street raised and released 50 of them twenty years ago and they are the foundation of our local flocks. I cannot shoot them I just enjoy watching them to much.

yeah i'm looking foreword to it. A friend just baught a small plot of land (4 acres) of wooded area (not suitable for home or anything) that he got just for hunting. We are going to go try to get a few turkey's. He hopes to get a few deer (i'm not doing that this year()

I love to hunt spring turkey, but I've never really had much luck hunting them in the fall. It's a whole different strategy given it's their social season and not mating season.

But how does the taste compare to that from the store?, if you use a shotgun is it a chore to remove all the pellets before processing it for consumption?.

How hard is it to defeather a turkey? I've only had the pleasure of a chicken.

You shoot them with a tight choke pattern in the neck/head so there are few pellets to remove. Also, many people just take the breast and leave the rest, but its not hard to skin them instead of defeathering them.

Please, please, please make sure you are using non lead ammunition. Especially if you leave everything but the breast behind.

I feel dumb for asking because most hunters I know who consume their kills already do this.

You don't shoot deer with non-lead ammunition, why should I worry about turkey? I understand the issues for waterfowl, but why here?

Yeah they were illegal for a while but i believe it was 3 years ago they become legal for all game. Most people in my area look down on you if you use a crossbow, but them becoming legal has been a blessing for me. I injured my rotator cuff while playing hockey a few years ago and had to stop shooting my bow and thus not being able to hunt at all during bow season. Everyone seems to think crossbows have the accuracy of a rifle for some reason.

You should shoot deer with non lead ammunition.

The gut piles that hunters leave behind are eaten by many animals. If there is lead contained in them as well, then the animals can suffer from lead poisoning, just like humans can. This especially true for raptors and more specifically the bald eagle.

This is why I use Barnes ammunition for hunting game they use all copper to my knowledge.
