It's Flu shot season!

I am allergic to raw egg yolk so I can't get the shot. I would if I could.

Nurse uses same needle for 70 people to administer Flu shot.

I personally think she should be forced to use the same needle as well. Preferably up her ass or something. Funny thing is, I saw on the news that she hasn't been fired or arrested for assault. WTF? Just being investigated for wrongdoing.

Article says "needles" *weren't* reused but the syringes that hold the vaccine were reused? Not even sure how that works, but the article says the risk of infection is very low since needles were not reused.

Sounds like a case of negligence. I personally don't know how egregious it was since I don't do this kind of stuff, but the nurse probably thought it was OK since she wasn't reusing needles? Certainly doesn't sound like a criminal case to me.

Meh, I've got a bachelor party and wedding in the next few weeks, and flu vaccines always give me a very mild version of the flu for a few days. Nothing really debilitating, but all the same I'm waiting until November.

Flu or not I still go to work. A flu shot would be of no use on me.

What do you do? I would be fairly skeptical you're going to work with influenza. "Flu" sure, Flu, I doubt it.

They package bulk vaccine that you can draw from a vial/bottle for like 100 doses, or get it in pre-loaded TB syringes. I take it they were using the former. As long as she was not pulling the plunger BACK even a teeny bit prior to changing the needle, there should not have been a problem. Any biological material left in the needle is not going to walk up the needle into the syringe on its own.

That's not the flu. That's not a "very mild version of the flu" either really. It is a reaction by your immune system to it, which is not the same thing. Yes this is being pedantic assholery, but claims like this is why ignorance about disease and immunizations are actually backsliding.

Also, if its in a few weeks then go and get the flu shot now and you won't have to worry about it. If for no other reason than you help improve the chances that you won't be spreading the flu to people at the bachelor party and/or wedding.

Yeah, a lot of people don't know what serious flu is like. And it lulls them into ignorant complacency. Typical modern privileged idiocy.

Plus their comment "it won't do me any good, I'll go to work if I have the flu or not", um wouldn't you like the increased chance to not get the flue and feel like shit while working? What the fuck kind of argument is that?

This. The people going "I have a reaction"...then talk to your doctor and tell them so they can make sure you try a different version, there are options. Of course most of the people claiming that are full of shit and just think they have an allergic reaction because their body has a normal, possibly somewhat elevated immune response when they get it.

That's not to disparage that person if they really do, but I see a lot of people parrot shit like that and then find out they never even got the flu shot or if they did they just had a normal reaction, think they got the real flu and then swear off it forever after.

Ah its the time of year I shamed a young man who appeared 16 or 17 into taking the standard shot. We were at the town clinic and they announced the clinic was low on the spray. Kid was begging for one because his grandmother lives with them he needs to be protected. He then says his mom doesn't want him taking the mercury. Nurse left to see how many spray doses were available I told him to be a man and take the needle, save the spray for someone who needed it. Tell your mom you are a man.
The nurse came back to send him to the nasal spray table and he said he'd take the shot.
