I don't think I've ever seen that much snow in Portland in my lifetime, and I move away the year before. WTF?

Well, we finally got our power back on, after a day and a half in the dark. Four feet of snow on the ground, so naturally, the power had to go out. :roll:

I feel for ya vic. We have a Honda Pilot = tall and pushes a lot of air = crappy gas mileage
but it will push a fair amount of snow. last year with the record snowfall, I took it into a snow park on I-90 that had not seen any traffic. Folks and dog had to pee
I get in there and the dog can't get out of the tire tracks, and the porta-potty doors are drifted shut

Thats exactly what I figured you guys had out there on the west side. You had 13" yesterday, and it snowed another 5-6" throughout the day. SE Portland has over a foot now.

I have no idea anymore what areas get snow and which never do... Georgia, Oregon, CA, it seems every state has a part of it that sees some snowfall a year... and some that never do.

Anyway, I thought for sure Oregon gets snow because that CNET guy with the family died because they were stuck.

The mountains get tons of snow every year (~200+ inches on average), the western valleys only see snow on the valley floor every other year, and this kind of snow every 4-5 years (if that).

And no offense, but James Kim (RIP) was an idiot. There are many signs on that highway warning people from driving it during the winter. Now, they have gates. If only he'd taken the 42.

I'll answer that one myself. I-5 is still bottlenecked around Wilsonville and the I-5/I-205 interchange. The ice ruts that ODOT tried to beat down yesterday are back, it's snowing, and the roads in Portland are icy again; today it going to suck.

Well, my backyard gazebo just collapsed....she couldn't handle the load

I knew it was a goner when it started ripping a couple days ago.

Pretty heavy snowfall again today in Forest Grove, had take the wifey too work this morning in Beaverton. Real slow going, but I'm having no problem driving around.

Seeing alot of people that shouldn't be driving, and most don't look like they want to be driving

Never seen anything like this in the valley in my 48 years in Oregon.

The "don't want to be driving" would be me. I have come to the conclusion that Washington County doesn't own a single plow. They appear to rely on the "let the snow compact into gigantic mounds of ice in the middle of the road" strategy. I'm sure my truck's suspension hates me.

Yea, Western Oregon doesn't consistantly get enough snow to justify much removal equipment. Even heavy snows are generally gone in a day or two, just not this time. Looks like its on the way out now though. Newscasts are showing greatly improving conditions around the Portland Metro area.

Amazingly, I did get a UPS delivery yesterday...my hat is off to you Brown...nice job! :thumbsup:

Yeah, living in Beaverton + working by PDX = not enjoying this weather. I love snow and all, and it's been cool having so much of it to play in, but damn I'm ready for it to be gone so I can actually get to work in under an hour.

I am, however, looking forward to leaving work in about 10 minutes and going home to do some sledding. We live on a big hill that's bad for driving but awesome for sledding!

I live in SE and I don't recall ever seeing so much snow staying on the ground for so long in the city. I've had nearly two weeks off work, though I foolishly came in today (there is not a single other person here), so I'll duck out early. I have vacation time next week, so if I hadn't come in, I was looking at a 24 day weekend... Oh bother.

FIVE FEET OF SNOW ON THE GROUND. God, I am sick of snow. I spent christmas eve and christmas day shoveling snow off of roofs and removing trees and dead power lines from the county road. Every muscle in my body hurts. Power has been out since last sunday morning (barring a few hours monday evening when it was on briefly) and who knows when it'll be back on since it's down in multiple places over several miles. Today was the first time all week that they bothered to send the grader up to dig out the road, and he only bothered to make it one lane wide with berms on each side so high that you can't pull over if someone is coming the other way. One of you has to back up until you find someone's driveway that's been cleared (and houses are a half mile apart or farther.)

Merry fucking christmas. I want a bath.

I feel you. We spent last night in the SW off Taylors Ferry Rd. in Marshall Park and it still has close to a foot of slush on the ground. You might be able to get back in there w/ 4x4. I too am now tired of snow/ice/slush. When I get off I am taking the chains off as I am now tired of driving them on pavement. My wife is walking close to a mile to a friend's house so she can just be around people after being snowed in by herself for close to 2 weeks.

Do you have a generator?

Yeah. We have some lights, can watch tv, keep the heat tapes on the pipes going, run the fridge and freezer, and run the well pumps so we have running water and can flush the toilets. But it's not big enough to run anything that requires 220, so no hot water or stove/oven. Luckily, we have a wood stove, so we have heat and something to cook on.
