when in reality it's not the makeup that is making them attractive, It's their genetics. basically they would look good with or without the makeup.
Partially true. My minor is in filmmaking; you'd be
amazed at how things work behind-the-scenes. We can make anyone look like anyone or anything we want. You learn 2 things from the makeup & wardrobe departments, in particular:
1. Good genetics means that
you can look good in anything
2. Good makeup can
make virtually anybody good-looking
There's also 2a - good plastic surgery, contouring, hairdressing or hair reconstruction, prosthetic abs, spanx, tanning solutions, workout programs, photoshop, lighting in a particular video or photo, aging, and clothing can make people look completely different. Do a google image search for the meme of "nobody's ugly, just broke" and "glo-up". We see it happen in movies all the time:
Lots of people do crazy makeup online; check out this lady, who does characters on her herself:

Ever see the "Dove Real Beauty" commercial? Everything you see in the media is a complete fabrication:
Rick Genest (aka "Zombie Boy") was (RIP) covered head-to-toe in tattoos. Check out how good cover-up makeup is:
Makeup, lipstick, eyeliner, etc. can completely transformer a regular-looking person into someone who looks like a model. Some examples:

In the example below: contouring & highlighting makeup, eyeliner, lipstick, hairdressing, eyebrow work, jewelry, wardrobe, flattering lighting, good camera work:
Image changes don't just apply to women, either, nor does it only apply to the modeling & Hollywood scenes. A couple examples from the geek world:
Bodybuilding is all smoke & mirrors. Lighting has a huge effect on how you look:
As do tanning solutions on-stage:
But, all of that is secondary:
It's the disillusionment that females have when they think they are creating a work of art with their makeup
You're missing a key piece of information: girls don't put on makeup for guys, they wear makeup to help
themselves feel pretty. Same with clothes. Guys think girls get all dressed up for them, which sure, is
one of the reasons, but the real reason your girlfriend takes so long getting ready is because she wants the self-confidence boost created by the process & the result of makeup, hair, jewelry, and clothing. Simply put: wearing makeup makes a lot of girls feel pretty.
The keyword there is "feel" - it's about the emotion. It's not about whether or not they ARE pretty, it's about how they feel in that moment, on that date, on that particular night, etc. Imagine you bought a Ferrari & showed up on a date in this amazing, gorgeous, macho car - how awesome would that make you feel to roll up in style, packing heat? Check out this car, what's UP! Same idea for putting on makeup. The makeup itself is secondary to the emotion.
