I got this one. The only complaint I have, and it may be because I suck, is that it is impossible to achieve the optimal temp. It's either too cold or way too hot. My meat comes out either raw or burned. Am I just fu**ing up?

dunno, my dads gas grill has hot spots and i hate cooking on it because of that, but I can keep the overall heat in there right because he has a thermometer. so, roasting something slow isnt too much of a problem if i keep the heat low-ish.

get a grill thermometer to keep an eye on the temp and see if that helps

i hear that alot about gas grills. it is far harder to keep it at a optimal temp.

i would think right over the flame is best. then using distance from flame and air flow.

then again people have the same complaint with charcoal. i have used it so much i can tell how hot it is and control it just fine.

i would expect with practice you would get better.

Just get some briquettes and problem solved.

You just have to pre-heat your grill for about 10mins on high prior to putting anything on it but it will heat much more evenly.

Something like these you can get them from Wal-mart, Home Depot, Target, Lowes, etc...

Dude, get a Weber Performer. Gas start but you cook with charcoal. You can be cooking on charcoal within 15 minutes without lighter fluid.

I have never used lighter fluid to start charcoal.

a chimney is far better and faster.

I never bothered with that either... old fashioned paper->wood->charcoal. With a lot of fanning
Maybe I'll try an electric fan this year

That is a bother.

Seriously, as already suggested a chimney is perfect for this. Just fill it up, light it and wait, then dump.

I love cooking with charcoal and wood!

Thats why you have 2 grills. 1 propane and 1 charcoal. I use the propane one nearly every day for quick and easy meals when I get home from work and such (kids don't want to wait to eat nor do I). I use it all the time to grill bacon, and I don't feel like sitting outside in January in WI at 7am waiting on charcoal. When we have a more leisurely dinner, or a cookout with friends and neighbors, then I roll out the weber charcoal.

All you "go charcoal or go home" zealots need to realize that there is a place and time for everything.

I also have this grill and can tell you it works great. It's got great room for storing all your grilling equipment too. Clean up is not a problem at all. I was just telling my wife that we need to BBQ this weekend.

Make sure you get a good cover for it too. I bought the Weber cover, I think it was around $40. My grill has been sitting out in the rain for months now but when I recently took the cover off it looked good as new.

Hmm that's a good point.

When I had my previous grill, I used to grill 3-4 times a week easily. I'd marinate my chicken in the morning and when I'd get home from work, I'd fire up my grill grab a beer. That's kind of the reason I was leaning towards a gas grill.
