I'm not a frequent participant on H&F, but today, I saw this article on Yahoo that calls, moringa "the next superfood."

I don't usually go nuts over early info about such "miracle foods," but the facts they quote interested me enough to want to know more about it and to share it with others. A couple of quotes from the article:

Moringa has incredibly nutritious qualities—it has 3.5 times the calcium of milk and 4 times the vitamin C of oranges," says David Wolfe, author of Superfoods.

A recent analysis of the leaves found that moringa contains more vitamin A than carrots, more iron than spinach, and more potassium than bananas. It also packs as much protein as milk or eggs.

With any luck, it will taste good and be easy to prepare, as well.

You can get vitamin C from a lot of common fruits. The calcium part is interesting though. I imagine for the price though you can get a LOT of other superfoods - blueberries, kale, pomegranate, etc.

My regular breakfast is mixed cereals, raw nuts, fruit, low fat milk and low fat yogurt topped with "no sugar added" preserves. Between that and the various vitamins I take and the variety of fresh fruit I keep in my rest of my daily menu, a shortage of vitamin C and calcium aren't among my problems.

I top off breakast with a couple of large mugs of serious coffee, and I'm ready to burn for the day all the way to dinner.

Touting "more iron than spinach" is off-putting since its reputation for being rich in same is patently erroneous.

Yeah. I drink a ton of milk and eat a lot of yogurt. However, if you don't eat a lot of dairy or vitamin-fortified products, it usually is pretty hard to get a good amount of calcium. And there's new evidence that shows calcium supplementation (at least in women) can lead to cardiovascular issues... I'm always on the lookout to see how I can get my girlfriend to get more calcium from food in her diet.

At those kinds of numbers you wouldn't need to eat a lot of it in order to reap substantial benefits so unless it tastes terribly God awful it shouldn't strongly affect the taste of whatever dish to which you might add it.
