They might be more likely to be spared witnessing/consciously experiencing any violence of the assault, but I'd question how much mental anguish that really alleviates after the fact.

Based on absolutely nothing, I assume it would be a lot better to not remember any of that.

Canadian and Harvard University researchers are reporting preliminary results on 19 patients suffering from PTSD; the results seem encouraging. It seems that an old drug to treat high blood pressure, Propranalol, might be effective in making people forget their memories.

For those of you who aren't in the loop, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is that mental condition people get after traumatic events. It was called "shell shock" a long time ago because it's a common condition among soldiers, but trauma can be anything. It could be war, it could be a time someone pulled a gun on you, or the traumatic event could be rape. Scientists are putting real effort into figuring out a way to erase memories so people can no longer remember these traumatic events. No more flashbacks of seeing your friend shot in the head, no more flashbacks of rape, no more flashbacks of posting in ATOT.
