It's official, I am moving out on my own

After 24 years of living with my family I am getting an apartment with my gf. The furniture was delivered today and so was my bed. It's kind of sad to not be able to see my family every day since we are very close but it is a necessary step for me in the growing up process. Fortunately, they are only like 10 miles away so I can see them as often as I want.

I have lived with my family for the last 2 years while working full time to save up money and do it right.

Same thing I did when I was 24. Parents were 10 miles away too.

Ended up marrying her and having kids. Parents love to babysit because they're so close.

Congrats on this, nothing wrong with being close to them, but you're forming your own life now

After 24 years of living with my family
:Q
It must be different now. I see these "extended family stays" more and more. It's not that I didn't feel comfortable in my family's house when I graduated HS in 1970, but I wanted a seperate life. You know, the kind where you could do what you wanted, when you wanted, with who you wanted.

Good age. I'm 24 now and moved out at 19. It really doesn't make you any more "mature" despite what some crowds would believe. If a simple act of living on your own makes you more "mature" then somebody--then their metric of what is mature is pretty screwed up (simpletons).

It is far wiser to wait until you're ready like you are now and have the savings to do it rather than dive into it (and likewise dive into debt).

Good luck and I hope it works out well with your GF.

I dunno. I think those "simple acts', like paying for your own gas, electric, sewer, food, washing your own laundry and dishes and cleaning your own bathroom, just might make you more mature? If you did all those while living with your family, more power to ya.

People should move out when it's financially smart to do so. Movie out at 18, trying to work full time and taking a full load in college will only hinder one's academic education, especially at an elite university. better to do one thing at a time well rather than doing a mediocre job of everything at the same time.

GL OP!

You might feel different when you're paying it back.

I guess some people's parents finances are different than others.
well, even if his parents' finances are not well off, he could chip in while living at home but still save a lot of money as oppose to totally moving out.

LMK when you really move out on your own, moving out of the p's and in with a GF, BF, friend, or having a room mate, doesnt mean moving out on your own IMO. Your still with someone.

I feel kinda sorry for you, your missing out on a lot not taking the step out on your own by yourself. There is nothing like it in the whole world, and later in life when your stuck in a relationship your going to wish you had seen what it was like. It is great having a place all to yourself with no one around telling you what to do, how to dress, to clean the house, to dust, to blah blah blah, and walking around in your underwear or naked without a care in the world, jacking it , well there just is no better feeling then that, having your own place not jacking it
I hope you and the old lady make it work together moving in with one another, if not, you going to go move back in with your parents, too afraid to take on the world alone at that point as well?

A lot of places, especially in bigger cities, it doesn't make a lick of sense to get an apartment by yourself. Unless you are out of college and making lot's of money, why bother? IS the extra freedom really worth all that extra money?
