In my twenty years of driving here, I never knew anyone that got a ticket for tinting. I heard of guys with limo dark windows ticketed, but nothing shy of that.

-derp-you said "windshield".
derp derp.

I can not be the only person in CA who has gotten a fix it ticket for tinted windows. Happened over 15 years ago so maybe cops are more lenient about it nowadays. I had a standard cab GMC Sonoma with limo tint on the back and I think 35 on the doors. Highway patrolman pulled me over no other reason than that and ticketed me. The funny thing was the ticket I received gave one expensive fee to leave the tint on and a cheap fee if it was removed.

I'm not generally to big on Lexus cars but that one does look nice with the tinted glass.

Cops will pull over a tinted vehicle in CA if they have some other reason why they might want to pull over the car. They'll use it as an excuse. Many a drunk/stoned driver has been caught that way.

Pretty much. Drive "normally" and cops won't bug you. Our WRX is tinted, lowered and has a loud exhaust. *knock on wood* we've only been pulled over once in 10 years and that was for speeding.

I have 50% on the front door glass on my car and had the same on my Maxima and never got pulled over for tint.

It might depend on the state laws. I have illegal tint that I got when I was in Alabama. And I couldn't be pulled over for it as it was only a secondary offense; I'd have to be pulled over for something else, then they could tack the extra tint fine onto the ticket. I am 100% certain my tint is illegal in IL, and I've yet to be pulled over.

Of course it depends on state laws. And the state I live in it is illegal to tint the windshield or either of the front doors. Still, many people do it and many people never get pulled over for it. It depends on the level of tint and if a cop decides he wants to hassle you for it.

car looks better tinted

my friends tint shop will use a good ceramic 80% film for windshields. you can barely tell its tinted, but the heat rejection is very noticeable. i dont have any tint on my windshield, but i do have 16/4 on my wagon and my truck. ive only been stopped once in my wagon for it, but was a repair order, not a ticket.

35% on the front is legal where I am from. I had 20% in my younger years and got pulled over and left with a warning.

Just to be clear....35% is okay on THE FRONT SIDES, NOT THE FRONT WINDSHIELD, right?

ya, 35% is AZ legal on the front doors. the back windows can be as dark as you want, even blacked out if thats your thing.the windshield (iirc) has to be requested for medical reasons only.

I meant, it is not just if the tint is illegal or not (in 2009 IL finally repealed their draconian "no front window tint" laws), but as to whether it is an offense the cops are allowed to stop you for. In Alabama, 35% was the legal limit, and I had 20% (which was still illegal in the state I got it, TX, but whatever). I had a few cops mention it in passing, at a gas station or something, that my tint was illegal, but they couldn't do anything about it unless I was stopped for another reason. They could add it on to a ticket, but it couldn't be the primary offense.

CA could be like that, I have no idea.

They did more than that. They explicitly allow tint and prevent home rule units from being able to alter that. Tint is finally safe in Chicago.

Its the color of asphalt. That'll be helpful on a gray day (if you want it to disappear).

Its a lovely car - it really is. I'd just never get a vehicle any shade of metallic gray. I can't count how many I hadn't noticed on the road at first - especially if they get a bit dirty.

The new ES is RWD or FWD?

The old ES was based on the camry.. and it was basically a glorified rebadged camry

No, it is still wrong wheel drive.

Its now a glorified rebadged Avalon.

The new Avalons are really nice actually. I test drove one and I was fairly impressed with it. The new ES being based on the Avalon platform is a good thing.

 No thanks. I've had a couple 3 series, too small and just too many problems with them.
