I guess it depends on the situation,when you look at WAR with its PvE,PvP,RvR parts you can see role of some classes being slightly different especially when each class can branch off a bit depending on what the player chooses for their class skills etc..,I'm hoping the players are bit more mature then the average WoW players and let the classes/players do what they want or be more flexible for the most part (as long as the group etc are happy with the role they play),sure there's has to be some planning especially with RvR etc.. and some classes will play a more important role then others.

All speculation on my part but we shall see.

That was one thing I hated about WoW as well, the attitude of other players made having talent trees next to useless.

It's too early to tell if this will happen in WAR, but I don't think it will happen based on the fact that WAR revolves around RvR rather than PVE like WoW. In WoW the arenas and raiding were the 2 big areas where everyone wanted a certain build. Since WAR is mainly large scale PVP I don't think people will complain as long as you can contribute.

One question for those CB testers,can you speak with the opposing side or is it like WoW where you don't understand what they are saying,since I have friends going on both sides(or enemies depending how you look at it).

No, just like DAoC before it, there's no way to communicate with the opposing side. What good could possibly come from that?

been watching a bunch of beta videos tonight. the ironbreaker and shaman definitely seem like cool classes too.

ironbreakers seem to be noticeably better than the other tanks as well. Mainly because of the grudge mechanic being better and less restrictive than the black orc/swordmaster combo system and the chosen aura system.

If you're basing your thoughts just on the preview weekend remember that a lot of the unstoppable players were in rank 10 / renown rank 6 gear. It pretty much made them invincible against those without the gear.

To pontifex - you can respec mastery/renown etc

one thing I don't like, and this happens in other mmos also, is that only certain races can be certain classes. I mean, I can see a few based on lore, like the White Lion, but not all.

I also dislike each race having it's own type of mount. I don't see why they can't make it so you can different mounts, within reason.

Mmo's evolve, and a lot of things are cut back/removed just to get the game out. Things you don't like could easily be fixed/changed (or made worse) =)

My Witch Hunter tore Shamans up. Maybe I was justp laying against bad ones. The little bit I played of one though, it seemed like a very fun class.

RP in daoc usually meant realm points. you got more realm points playing on a side that was the underdog, so your character would attain realm ranks more quickly.

Should I replace my 8800gts 512 for a 4870 to run this game? Or is it not worth upgrading my video card.

Their European site is now available for open beta download here ,all European CE users etc..can now download the 12GB file,btw does not seem to work with Firefox properly so use IE7.

uh, ...so would you say WAR is extremely gear-based then? I was under the impression it wasn't as bad as WoW in that respect.

The jump from the random junk you get to the gear I mentioned is nuts. Subsequent jumps aren't nearly as game changing so it's only an issue at very low levels. Each tier has power swings and things can be very different at 40 than they were at 10.

You also get 3 equipment slots you normally have nothing in (helm, shoulder, cloak) which make the power jump more pronounced.

My orc for instance went from 5-10% resistances and 25% or so armor mitigation to 60% armor mitigation and 55-60% resists and double the dps.

Gear curve isn't supposed to be anywhere near as bad as WoW (thank god)

80 renown ranks (pvp Levels) 40 ranks (levels)

I got my chosen to rank 14 renown rank 8 and bought that gear. I did very good in pvp and pve with that gear and it was fairly easy to get.

From my that point of view I found ironbreakers in similar gear to be slightly better at mitigating damage, and because of their grudge mechanic they put out a decent amount more damage than I did on my chosen. I have no idea if that's how it will work out at rank 40 but at rank 14 that was my experience.

Here's the thing though - those people aren't even really supposed to have that gear in those RvR situations. There was a post over at WHA the other day from Mark Jacobs saying that it was a bug and would be fixed.
