my roomy has been spooging his pants the past couple days because of wmp9's easy id3 tag editing and downloading, and organization. I don't even use playlists(I queue up 3-4 songs at a time in my winamp3), so I also prefer the smaller, and imo equal quality playback that winamp has to offer. I'm already a Windows and IE slave, might as well fight back a little with winamp

I grade media players based on how they play media and not how they organize them. Explorer does a fine job of organizing them for me.

Amen. Folders are for organization.

I can't stand WMP. Utter bloated crap.

MPEG Audio Decoder Compliance

I don't even see WMP on that list. Although Winamp and some others perform well.

I don't know why more of you aren't concerned with which sounds better. I haven't tried WMP9 yet, but earlier versions sounded like crap.

I never used WMP past 6.4 and in fact ditched 6.4 for the clone Media Player Classic by the author of VobSub. For MP3 I have stuck with Winamp 2.x until very recently but after trying Creative's MediaSource which is included with the Audigy 2 I am on the verge of switching. Normally I am loathe to even install such software because in the past it has always been craptastic. But apart from not having nifty visualizations it lacks nothing. As soon as I program my remote control for it I may just bid Winamp adieu after all these years.

Your flatulence must be quite musical.

To be accurate, Winamp has utilized several different decoders including Fraunhofer's so it couldn't really always have sounded like ass, if it ever did.

There's was a point where most comparison's between Winamp and Sonique gave Sonique the edge in sound quality. I'd like to know how all the new versions stack up though.

Winamp 3 has a nice, easy-to-use music library as well, so the argument for WMP on this point is irrelevant. I also love LyricsAMP which automatically gets the lyrics (and even inserts it in ID3 v.2 if you let it) for the songs of most mainstream artists. As for WMP and sound quality, the last time I listened to my LAME VBR mp3 files using WMP, I got terrible clipping, so... Not for me. Winamp all the way (and Sonique, if they ever finish v.2...)

I totally agree. I have been using WMP 6.4 for everything. It's interface is nice and simple. I don't need a playlist because I can just repeat the same mp3 over and over again. If I want a new mp3 I just search in Explorer and double click and it starts playing immediately. WMP 7/8/9 all have bloated interfaces. I can't figure out how to disable the visualization and have it in a nice small box like WMP6.4. If I could I might change to WMP 9.

That's also why I like WA2.8. Winamp 3 is slower to load than WMP9, and IMHO isn't all that great.

If you want to stay in full mode but not use a processor-intensive visualization, choose View > Visualizations > No Visualization. To get a good approximation of the old WMP6.4, go to the Skin Chooser, choose "Classic" from the list and click Apply. Hope this helps.

Plus, most of the visualizations with W3 suck, anyway, at least IMNSHO.

Winamp 2.81 forever as far as I'm concerned.

winamp 2.8x rules; never used (and never will) wmp for mp3s.
tried winamp3, just plain didn't like the no "jump key" and cpu hogging.
imo, the skins aren't all that impressive either.
why update if it works perfectly?

How do I disable any visulizations when play mp3s with WMP9?

I like Winamp, but it doesn't display song title correctly if the file is named with Asian front.

Gui mp3 players are pointless to me anyways. Python + py-mad + some imagination and time = the best mp3 player for yourself, not something that someone else wrote for you, which is likely full of bugs, bloated, dependant on a gui, yadda yadda...

Easy... Right click on the screen area where the visulizations is and you will see the light.

WinAmp 2.81 or XMMS for me.
The jump function is what sets it apart, I don't feel like changing my playlist all the time, so I throw all my songs(~3.000 files) into one big playlist and use the jump function if I wanna listen to some particular song.

I've never understood why people care about visualizers, skins and such, music is for listening to.
Granted, if someone made a nice Iron Maiden skin I'd install it "just because", but it doesn't really make any difference.

Also, since WA 2.8x and XMMS look and act pretty much the same, I don't need to change my habbits when moving between Linux and Windows.
I installed WMP 9 at home just to try it out, didn't see what all the fuss was about, looked and felt the same as WMP8 to me, that is, it sucked.

WMP 6.4 is still the best Windows player for video stuff, and WinAmp 2.81 remains my pick for music.

It's official huh? Thank you for establishing that.

Some of don't want playlist management and libraries dude. I manage my music via the PC's filesystem and I absolutely HATE WMP and any other media player that makes me jump through hoops just to play a song.

WMP is frickin bloatware anymore these days.
