eh.
LOLyourFace:
Dark patches under the eyes are most prominent of certain ethnic groups of India (i.e. a lot of people from the state of Gujurat have that (Patels, Shahs, Mehtas, Desais, Etc.....). Most Indian girls in the U.S. ARE UGLY imho, and I'm Indian. The fact is, that India is a diverse country so I dont' know why non-Indians refer to Indians as if they look ONE way. Maybe its the same reason that non Indians don't think my family or I look "Indian." There is this certain stereotype that people have of how Indians look. Indians can be negroid, caucasian, "oriental", and mixed. I would wager to bet if you saw more girls of true Punjabi ethnicity (which are a minority compared to Gujuratis and South Indians in the United States), you would have a completely different opinion.
Most of my friends are Indians, and most of them are of Gujurati descent. My Gujurati friends are constantly asking me to hook them up with Punjabi girls, because they think they are "fair" and have good features. This has now happened 3 times, with three guys who don't even know each other. All three are Gujurati, and all three want to marry Punjabi girls, even though they have a completely different culture, language, food, race, etc. To be perfectly honest, even though i care about my friends a lot, this has kinda got me sick, i don't tell 'em that though. You should not marry a woman just because she is fair and does not look like you or your family... its okay i guess if the girl should be fairer than the guy, but 14 shades fairer isn't required now..... anyways, thats a whole other topic....
A very large portion of Indian movie actors and actresses are fair skinned, which causes questions from my American friends who wonder why they see such things, i get a lot of "they don't look Indian," etc... Well, there is no ONE look. Many of them are Punjabi. ( if you google pics of Hritik roshan, kabir bedi, karishma kapoor, raj kapoor, raveena tandon - all movie stars, you'll see what im saying.)
Of course India has had a lot of mixing so you'll find some Punjabi girls that are dark (Bend it like Beckham chick), and some Gujurati girls that are very fair, but overall, what i've said is the commonly held position of Indians and Indian Americans. I've probably lost most non-Indian people reading this post by now, but just say the difference between a Punjabi and a Gujurati and a South Indian and an Assamese is about the same as the difference between Greeks and Italians, French, and Croatians. Different language, different appearance, different customs, different food, different dress, one common, loosely defined, but highly varied (again depending on region/state) religion (i.e. Hinduism).
Long story short i didn't think you meant bad but i just wanted to clarify to people not from the Indian community that there ARE different types of Indians that look completely different. India is an extremely diverse country that you'd have to go and see to believe.
