Off-season elections always favor old people/Republicans though. The fact that you have states consistently polling 5% or so in favor of Clinton now in favor of Trump or at least near-misses (VA) shows that either pollsters were asking the wrong people, or the people that were asking weren't giving an honest answer.

To be fair, the Republican leads that resulted in this position are very small... but there were enough of them. That's the heartbreaking part. If even a handful of Libertarians or Greens voted Democrat, Clinton would be making her acceptance speech now.

Barring a surprise recovery for Clinton, the main consolation: Trump could ironically increase Democrat chances of regaining some control of Congress in 2018. Depends on just how much Trump's inexperience and ego hurts his party.

Only looks at one side. I'm a libertarian voter that is much more likely to go (R) than (D) under ordinary circumstances. The Greens and others explicitly rejected the two-party system, so I can't imagine they're crying (at least not yet).

Well aside from the likely couple of SCOTUS picks he'll have that's a hopeful analysis I can feel better about.

Perhaps the democratic members in the Senate can play the obstruction game... but can they play the propaganda game and make their obstruction seem principled like the republicans (imo) have convinced much of America that theirs is?

I don't know why people are afraid of what Trump will do.

He will do exactly 3 things, the only things he can do as POTUS without the establishment Dems and Repubs backing him.

1 - Appoint SCOTUS judges. He's going strict constitutionalism, so get used to following the constitution.

2 - Enforce the law. Yes, this includes immigration law.

3 - Veto bills he disagrees with.

That's pretty much it.

Oh, and he can appoint a DOJ head that will drain the swamp a bit. Expect that, it's coming. Clinton Foundation is going down.

Taking money, or your spouse taking money, from a foreign gov't while you are in office is a felony. That's a fact. Think about that, and why it hasn't been prosecuted (yet). This is Obama's scandal that he ignored. Expect Obama to pardon Clinton, but expect their little cronies to go down.
