This time of year is probably my favorite here in NorCal. In spite of the rainy weather, the whole out of doors is filled with the sweet, delicate aroma of almond blossoms.

I haven't made the drive out to that part of the area yet, but the local apricot fields should be in full bloom, and I imagine that the cherry trees are about to start blooming.

Spring has indeed sprung here in Northern Kahleeforneeya!!

while I'm shoveling snow, I'll be sure to think about the income tax refunds you guys never got

I just got new snow tires on my car and wanted to try them out. Too bad I'm in SF for the week and missing out on the weather.

jealous much?

Actually, they fixed that problem last week (or the week before?) when they FINALLY passed a new budget...

BUT, since I don't have to file for taxes...it doesn't affect me one way or the other.

I took these a couple of years ago after a few days of rain.

I wish we were supposed to get that much in the northern tip of VA. We haven't had a really good snow in several years.

The 95 corridor is supposed to get like 8 inches. At least, thats the latest forecast I can find for Arlington.

Then again, its barely snowing here right now and it's still not accumulating on anything but my lawn.

I live in the real northern tip.

ya, sidewalks not even sticking here in Falls Church. that said, I have to fly to NY on Tuesday, which is not looking pleasant at the moment.

Watch out for super mutants.

first thing I did in game was seek out the Farragut West metro, where my work is. Super mutants, bandits... I was glad to see my law firm was still there.

:Q

<--REALLY wishes he had that damn game

<--- was doing some power slides on his way home from Leesburg. It IS sticking

Boston Channel is showing 406 closings already. MA has basically shut down, we've gotten about 4-6 inches since around 8am Sunday, still going strong. Snowblower and shovels are ready, and I have nothing to do tomorrow.

That snow needs to move down to Texas. I am not prepared for my exam tomorrow.

*remembers those nights when a storm was brewing*

*remembers this one time when he was positive that a storm of catastrophic proportions was brewing, one the likes of which god had never unleashed upon us pathetic mortals. I had slept soundly that night knowing that I did not need to study for the next morning's exams.

The gravity of the expletives uttered by my person upon awaking to a sunny spring morning has never been equaled and I finally understood what catholic guilt felt like*

They closed a bunch of schools in Northen Virginia. Am not pleased. I only have class 2 days a week and I paid damn good money for my education. I need the class time.
Am also amazed at how easily they shut down everything. In Minnesota this wouldnt even slow down a pedestrian. Folks here are too soft. I think it may have something to do with the fact 3/4 of the population didnt grow up here.

didn't really seem that bad to me... my car took 5 minutes to de-snow and all the roads were more or less clean.

the 2nd round just started in central jersey, but I heard that it'll only be a couple more inches.

well, I'm an air traffic controller there and I couldn't make it to work. Several of my co-workers live pretty far away as well so I doubt they made it in. I highly doubt they'll close the airport but there will probably be massive delays/cancellations

So on a day like today where snow will continue throughout... what's the best time to shovel/blow? Mid-day or at the very end? Cause with the wind wouldn't most of the snow just blow back onto driveways/sidewalks? I don't want it to become too packed though. How do you judge?

Snow blowers are for wussy. Be a real man and break out the shovel.

You're an idiot. I suppose the 6'3" 230lb cop who lives next door to me with his snowblower is a wussy too. You're still an idiot.

When was the last time NYC got a storm that was a blizzard? Was there one in the last 10 years?

What a pain in the butt getting to work this morning. I don't understand how Manhattan subways can be delayed. It's underground... I also walk by this block where a few brownstones NEVER shovel their sidewalk. So it always ends up getting packed down by footprints and turns to a sheet of uneven ice. Very dangerous. I'm waiting for someone to fall and sue these lazy idiots.

I think the definition of a blizzard has to do with 35+mph winds and a visibility of less then half a mile. Something like that. It's not an indicator of how much snow. In 2006 I think it was we got about 2 feet around this time of the year.

It was painful walking through this this morning. It was very windy, a constant 20-40mpg where I walked and the snow was icey like getting your face sand blasted.
